Blizzard still interested in returning to Starcraft: Ghost

PALGN News | Just rested says Blizzard.
Blizzard has revealed that the company still hopes to return to sci-fi shooter Starcraft: Ghost, despite being put on hold indefinitely back in March 2006.

Speaking to Next-Gen.biz during this week’s Hollywood and Games Summit, Blizzard lead designer Rob Pardo discussed the process the company goes through when canceling a project.

Rob explained that Blizzard, the company known for its high-standard titles, are “willing to cancel the products that fail”. Rob further commented, “That's important to our brand. We're willing to bite the bullet and write off those expenses. Sometimes six months into development, the idea doesn't flow.”

When discussing the company’s most recent canceled title, Starcraft: Ghost, Rob expressed an interest to re-explore the title further down the line. “Our most recent one was Starcraft: Ghost. With that game we were very stubborn. I still believe in that game and the characters but we were not able to execute at the level we wanted to…Rather than work on that we had to focus on our other games. We're hoping one day to return to it.”

It’s still a far stretch from a confirmation from Blizzard, though they haven’t ruled out its return altogether.

Ghost looked so awesome I can't imagine why they canceled it.
The extended CG trailer on YouTube is sooo sweet.

Awesome.Though I hated the RTS Starcraft I was rather looking forward to this one.

Maybe someone should start a petition.Seeing as he said they'd be interested in bringing it back, a petition might be the extra push to go ahead with it.

Wasn't there a petition *not* to make ghost? I'm sure I signed one a while back, and I think they made the right decision to drop it. Although they might get it to look very cool the gameplay sounded like it would be convoluted, complicated and generally horrible.

Petitioning against a game coming out, one without a demo and that was under a major reworking? That's stupid, trying to stop something you've never played... I love the internet.

Most people would rather see 2 rather than Ghost, myself I don't mind but I'll rather it see it be done well on a PS3/360 rather than PS2/Xbox.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, I'd be the first in line waving the flag for 2 before spin-offs, but signing a petition to try and stop a game with as much potential as Ghost... madness.

^ What I was thinking icon_razz.gif

Honestly I was never a big fan of Starcraft either, the Warcraft series are gold though and Warcraft got its successfull spin off in WoW. So I spose its only fair to see Starcraft get popular again for the next generation of gamers. Ghost could have really hyped up SC2.

I don't care about Ghost. I just want my Starcraft 2 so I can get my soul back.

it's not as if Ghost was encroaching on SC2's development process anyway, with the possible exception of also using the team that creates the cinematics.

i would love to see Ghost released, even if it's not up to Blizzard standard, i would be willing to bet it'd still be in the top 10% of the games of the genre.
