PALGN Mailbag - 10/6/07

PALGN Feature | We answer your queries and respond to your feedback.
Last week we encouraged our readers to write to our mailbag, with suggestions, feedback and questions about games and PALGN. We had a great response and decided to post some of the letters we received. Remember we'll be running the mailbag again in a fortnight, so feel free to email mailbag@palgn.com.au with your questions and feedback.

Hi Guys, gotta question...

On your release list you say Mass Effect (Xbox360) is coming out in August.
Some sites have said it is coming out in November.

My questions for you are:

1) How do you know the release date for games? Do the publishers let you
know?
2) Is there any update on the release date of Mass Effect?

Thanks and keep up the good work,

Anthony

Thanks for your email Anthony. Since you emailed us, the release date for Mass Effect has actually changed and is now scheduled for release on November the 15th. We compile our release dates in a few different ways. Every week or so publishers send us through release schedules with dates for all of their confirmed titles. We also receive the release date information from retailers, who are often informed ahead of time about titles so that they can prepare for the stock. It seems we'll be seeing Mass Effect in November, but as the title is a Bioware game we'll just have to wait and see whether that date sticks or not.

G'day fellas,
I'm a long time reader who's plowed through almost all of your material. I love the way your writers go about delivering to the wide open world. They are very objective, make clever remarks and deliver well on their subjects. Just something I've noticed recently is that there hasn't been too much material pumping out as there used to be. A bit disappointing but I still read. Good job and keep up the hard
work fellas,

kind regards didier_lassus
p.s. Give all your writers a pay rise!

I can assure you PALGN has more articles on the way. The lack of content you're referring to is likely the mid-year drought that is upon us due to the delay of E3. We will however be pumping out even more features, reviews and previews in the next few months, so keep checking back! In terms of giving our writers a pay rise, their heads are already big enough from your remarkably kind words, so maybe that will do them for a little while. Alright, we'll give them a cookie every now and then.

To all at PALGN.

Let me just begin by saying that this site is, without a doubt, the greatest thing going for Aussie gamers! We're definitely the scraps at the bottom of the big gaming barrel, but having such a dedicated group of people run such a wonderful site makes things a little more bearable.

I've been visiting from day 1, back when the site was linked with the other PAL regions, and I really must say that things have just gotten better and better. The best thing is that there is something new to read daily - something that some bigger sites can't even guarantee! Anyway, I love doing the rounds each and every night, keeping tabs on all the news in the gaming world. Yeah, I still visit other sites, but I just don't have the same feeling of excitement as I do visiting PALGN. I'm not talking s**t here - I've no need to kiss a**e - I just really like hearing good news for us Aussie gamers, which, as you know, is quite scarce at the best of times.

Constructive criticism? Honestly, I don't really have too much. More news is always a good thing, even if it doesn't concern Australia. Because of how disadvantaged we Aussie's are, an import section might be nice. You could list stuff that's coming up /already out that some of us may not know, along with good places to grab it from. I guess a feature every now and then might do the job a little better? Easy Mode 2. 3 was good, maybe just a little more statistic-y when needed, just like "Gaming Bargains" – which, might I add, is also fantastic (minus EB sections)!

Now I don't really have questions, but please keep tabs on Virtua Fighter 5 360 and any news on a stick release, Ninja Gaiden Sigma and the 360 Elite.

I'm so lazy. This is just a right place right time situation, as I wouldn't normally do something like this. I've thought about joining a forum many times but never end up doing so. If I do it'll be here. Anyway, just wanted to express my gratitude for all the hard work put into this fantastic site and hope it all continues to go well.

Keep up the great work!

A.P.R

All of the staff at PALGN love you a lot. We enjoy putting in all the time and effort and bringing you all the news we can. One of the best things about PALGN is the fact that we update on weekends too, so you're correct; something to read everyday! Thanks very much for the kind words.

I think that they sould make another Shinobi game because I loved the one on the Playstation 2. Is there any talk on making another title or have Sega just dropped the axe?

Nick F

We haven't heard much about a new Shinobi to be honest. Sega are currently in a "resurrecting old franchises" mood though so if the series is going to be resurrected we'd expect to hear about it at E3. It wouldn't be advisable to hold your breath though - there are other Ninja games out though that may tickle your fancy such as Ninja Gaiden or Tenchu.

Hi Guys,

Can you please tell me if AFL Premiership 2007 contains fights and Aurora stadium down in Tassie?.
thank you for your time
Josh

We've been lucky enough to be playing AFL Premiership 2007 for a few days now and unfortunately there are no fights in the game, there is however a stadium in Launceston.

Thanks to everyone who wrote in with all their kind comments, suggestions and questions. If you have any queries please email mailbag@palgn.com.au. We'll try and publish as many letters as we can, but of course, with so many letters it isn't always possible to publish everything. If you have any questions, specifically about AFL Premiership 2007, then head over to my blog and ask them there.

I can assure you PALGN has more content on the way. The lack of content you're referring to is likely the mid-year drought that is upon us due to the delay of E3. We will however be pumping out even more content in the next few months, so make sure you keep plowing through our content!
A rather contentious response!

I usually don’t give a critique of articles and features on here, but to be brutally honest, I didn’t much care for this feature. To begin with, it really was not so much a “palgn mailbag”, as much as it was “Luke’s mailbag”. I doubt any of the other staff were involved in answering the questions, and the fact that it has a picture of Luke as well as a link to Luke’s blog pretty much denotes that this is indeed Luke’s mailbag. Also some of the writing was a bit sloppy… “All of the staff are PALGN love you a lot….” Does all your base belong to us as well? And “I can assure you PALGN has more content on the way. The lack of content you're referring to is likely the mid-year drought that is upon us due to the delay of E3. We will however be pumping out even more content in the next few months, so make sure you keep plowing through our content!” Good to see more CONTENT will be coming as I was not CONTENT with the CONTENT of all the CONTENT so far………

And of course, aside from all of this, there is the fact that a mailbag seems rather redundant when there is a pretty decent forum on this site that most of the staff seem to participate in, and anyone can get their questions answered by simply posting a topic in said forum….

I have edited the errors out, i'm not sure why these skipped validation.

I recieve several, several emails daily from people who don't want to sign up to the forums and ask a question and we received lots of emails, so demand is obviously there for a mailbag.

I answered these questions but the idea is that if the article stays several staff will take on the role of answering these.

^ I'd imagine some people would want to ask questions without registering on the forum.

Also just because Luke did it this week, doesn't mean he'll do it everyweek. And even if he does what's the big deal??

Maybe that means we'll get more pictures of Luke in humurous mailbag situations? Like in an actual mailbag? Or perhaps, rolling a katamari of mail?
