PALGN 2007 reader survey results

PALGN News | Survey says...
Those of you with sharp memories will remember that back in January we ran a reader survey to get your thoughts and opinions on PALGN. The survey was a massive success, with a quite ridiculous number of people completing it (no doubt thanks to the lure of free loot). And we recorded some rather intriguing (and often surprising) data, which you might be interested in:
  • Females make up around 28% of PALGN's readership.
  • The vast majority of you reside in Australia, but we also have readers in Italy, Canada and Portugal.
  • Only 14% of readers are under the age of 18, with our most popular age group being 18-24, accounting for 33% of readers. Almost 28% of you are between 25 and 34, with another 16% between 35 and 44.
  • The most popular gaming platform among our readers is the PC, with almost 72% saying their PC is used for games. The PS2 was the second favourite with around 61.22% of you lot owning one, with Xbox 360, Wii, Xbox and GameCube infiltration hovering around the 40% mark.
  • The PS3 topped the console-to-buy list, with 32.63% of people expecting to purchase one in the next year (NB: the survey was conducted before the PS3 was released in Australia).
  • It seems that everybody likes all parts of PALGN equally, with users making regular use of news, reviews, features, competitions and release lists. In fact, the community is the least used part of PALGN, with only 22.77% of visitors using it on a regular basis.

We're pleased that almost everybody believes that what they read of PALGN is at very least of good quality, if not better. The one reoccuring complaint among those surveyed was that the design, while still good, was a bit outdated - we're working on it.

Surprising! I would have expected the majority to have been in the teens at least.

These results really did shock me, these in particular.

28% of readers are female, considering who posts comments its kind of supprising mind you not all readers enter the forums

Only 18.49% of readers have a PS2 and only 22.66% play games on a PC, pretty supprising

That's cool. May I ask what "quite ridiculous number of people" is in numerical format?

Also, what's with 2.02% of respondants never playing games... Just random people wanting a prize? icon_lol.gif

EDIT: renegadesx, yeah the platform percentages seem very low, don't they.

Parents checking out game reviews before buying for their offspring? Although you're probably right - everyone wants something for nothing, don't matter what it is icon_razz.gif

im surprised the console numbers were so low, especially the xbox numbers,
the community thing dosent surprise me though i never bothered to make an account for a very long time after i had been reading this site

Some of the statistics surprised me, like how many females browsed the pages lol. But it was good to be informed so you get a better understanding of the site.

Alil surprised that this part of palgn is the least visited though.

Would be nice if we got a larger influx of members based around those who don't visit the community, hopefully we can work on getting them join the forums.. icon_smile.gif

What are these people doing here is a better question for them.

LOL please tell me someone noticed that the 14-17 age group makes up 13.37% of the readership... (1337)

Note: I've updated the article. The original stats in some the sections were a percentage of the total number of entries in that section, not a percentage of the total number of respondants - so whole sections didn't make sense.

I've updated the whole article with the correct stats now - so every section is a percentage of total respondants.

Yer I saw that too, clearly just a coincidence, and nothing to do with how skilled they are (or rather aren't icon_wink.gif ).

Wait.......there are grlz 0n th3 int3rn3tz!!!!! icon_eek.gif

Seriously though I was a long time reader of the website before I decided to take the plunge and start posting. Maybe people just want to read the latest news instead of justifying to strangers why sony/nintendo/microsoft is better than sony/nintendo/microsoft.

Article talk isn't the best example of what the community is like.

Here we argue and bitch, in all the other forums everything is at peace.

For any of the girls, 17/M/Melb.

As for the ages of the readership, I'm one year off the main group there.

YOU'RE ALL SHEEP.

HEY PALGN! WHO WON THE FREE GAME?!
Well this is definately one of my favourite sites. Xboxzone and mygen are full of heaps of rude people with only a select few that are ok. Xbw is good apart from about 3 people. But this has the nicest people and awesome reviews and articles and heaps of prizes all the time!! keep up the good work staff.

<3 PALGN.

Winner was;
Sally Bigmore
She chose The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth II (360)

T-shirt runners up;
Sam HK
Tom McDonald

I was going to put these in the survey round-up article, but since it was so long since the comp I didn't feel it was particularly relevant. I guess here is the best place for them.

PC rules them all, game wise. That's weird for me.

A 4:1 ratio is pretty much Sausage Fest 2007, (in absolute terms that is).
