Civ IV designer joins Spore team

PALGN News | Swaps one game god for another.
Soren Johnson, Lead Designer of Civilization IV, has left Firaxis Games to work with Will Wright on Spore. The announcement originally popped up on the forums at Civilization community site Apolyton and has since been confirmed by gamedaily.biz.

"It's a sad day for us, but we had 7 terrific years with him," said Kelley Gilmore, Director of Marketing at Firaxis. "He's an incredibly talented game designer and we look forward to seeing the wonderful work he'll produce for many years to come."

Johnson infrequently posts to his game design website at designer-notes.com but, as yet, hasn't commented on his move. A busy guy, obviously.

Oh that's a shame, Soren might have disappointed me a little with Civilization III but he totally redeemed himself with Civilization IV.

Still I can see why he might have wanted to leave. Creating Civilization games for ever might get a little boring.

From Sid Meier to Will Wright. Pretty impressive on the resume.
