New NiGHTS details emerge

PALGN News | Making innovative use of Wii Connect 24.
New details regarding the upcoming NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams have come to light via Sega Europe's website.

NiGHTS will be able to wear various masks - Dragon, Dolphin and Rocket - which enable NiGHTS to morph into different forms, presumably in similar fashion as he/she/it morphed at certain points in each level in the original Saturn version (growing a fish tail when underwater, turning into a bobsled on a snowy mountain, etc.)

A more interesting addition, however, is that the game will make use of Wii Connect 24; not just as a means of trading items with friends, but the Wii's Forecast Channel will be used to "change the scenery according to real-world seasons." Fans of the original NiGHTS may recall a level which incorporated a giant clock as part of the landscape, which displayed the time according to the Saturn's own internal clock. It would appear that Sega is keen to include similar whimsical features into the sequel.

Holy crap that's cool! However, isn't the forecast channel allways a few hours behind? I've never played any of the NiGHTS games, but have head about there greatness. Brins this title on!

^ It says it will play according to seasons so a few hours either way won't make any difference (assuming they mean 3 month intervals).

That is very cool. However, I hope they give the option to turn that off if you want to - It'd be cool to not have to wait a few months to see some different weather icon_wink.gif

This is really an extension of the calendar function in Christmas NiGHTS. As christmas approached the in game level was blanketed with snow. On Xmas day Santa flew around in the background and on April 1 Reala replaced NiGHTS as the playable character. Making the in game scenery match with whats going on in your time zone is delightful... One thing I wanted to see in the localisation of Animal Crossing was seasonal change that reflected my hemisphere. A white christmas is alien to me. There is something special about playing a game inside on a rainy winter's day, the cascade on the roof echoed ingame. I hope we get some calendar specific elements too!
