PSP firmware 3.30 now available

PALGN News | New video features added.
A firmware update for Australian PSP users is now available, taking it to version 3.30 and marking it the latest upgrade since version 3.11 in early February.

New functionality includes:

Support for displaying thumbnails for items has been added under [RSS Channel].

Support for PLAYSTATION Network titles has been expanded.

The size of videos that can be played under [Video] has been increased.

Support for displaying thumbnails for content saved in the "VIDEO" folder of a Memory Stick has been added under [Video].

The increased video size allows for resolutions of 720x480, 352x480, and 480x272 - the latter being the PSP's native resolution. Allowing native resolution increases the quality of video, as the image does not need to be resized to fill the screen.

While of little comfort to Australian readers (being unable to download PSOne titles from the PlayStation Store at the present time), the new firmware also adds a "Disc Read Speed" option to decrease loading times on PSOne titles (much like the PlayStation 2).

Has there been any indication at this point from Sony as to when we will be able to download PSOne titles to our PSP's via the store?

PS1 games were meant to be out on PS3 launch day. With Sony's history of supporting AU PSP owners, expect it in 2047.
