Australian sales charts, week ending 21/01/07

PALGN News | The Burning Question: what's top?
The Burning Crusade, the World of Warcraft expansion that shifted a ridiculous number of copies in its first 24 hours alone, is top dog in Australia, as we suspect it is everywhere. That means last week's numero uno, Lost Planet, drops a spot to two, while The Legend of Zelda's chart performance continues to show all the consistency of lumpy custard - it bounced from outside the top ten to take second last week, but has now yo-yoed out of the chart again. The original World of Warcraft has charged all the way up to three, buoyed by Burning Crusade's release.

Fourth and fifth are occupied by a resurgent Cricket 07 and Gears of War respectively, and the bottom half of the ten consists of chart mainstays - Need for Speed Carbon nabs sixth, The Sims 2: Pets seventh, and WWE Smackdown Vs Raw 07 hits its lowest point since launching last year - eighth position. New Super Mario Bros. continues to cling to the chart in ninth, and the Guitar Hero II bundle rocks out at tenth.

The charts are updated weekly and are provided by the helpful types at GfK.

Chris, do GfK provide any units sold (week to date / life to date) or weeks released data? Would be really interesting to see.

Sadly not, though you're right - would be quite interesting to see, especially this week with TBC out.

it seems odd to me that WoW (original) made it back to number 3.

buoyed by BC or not, for a 2 year old PC game to have such a resurgance is quite phenomenal.

I know my brother recently bought WoW because of the expansion coming out.

I guess bringing an old game back into the spotlight makes it seem new again. People like to be playing what everybody else is talking about at the time.

Is this the first top 10 games with no Nintendogs in sight?

Well Playstation is slowly losing its grip with Xbox gaining strength. It wont be long before Wii has a regular top 10. Hopefully PS3 can have a successful launch.
