Apparently, Sega is working on at least two Alien titles, including a first-person shooter and a role-playing game, with the first to be released in 2008. Sega are also hoping to obtain the voice talents from several actors from the movies, including Sigourney Weaver and Lance Henriksen, to reproduce their movie personas for the games.
To avoid anymore butchery of the original movies, Sega has mentioned that the company will avoid following the story lines of any of the four films, preferring to provide fans with a new experience based on various Alien source material, where gamers can expect to find answers to questions that were once left unanswered and the return of familiar characters.
Alien is a multi-million dollar franchise, having accumulated almost $557USD million (roughly AU$737 million or £437 million) in worldwide box-office sales, and has seen its brand plastered on lunchboxes and video games ever since its 1979 debut.
Despite Sega acquiring the Alien brand, Fox has maintained the Alien vs. Predator franchise for now, with there being a second film currently in production and due in late 2007. The article suggests that a tie-in game for the film is a possibility.
We’ll have more on the future Alien titles as soon as it becomes available.
