New Live action Street Fighter film coming

PALGN News | Will they ever learn?
The first live action Street Fighter film is a universally reviled videogame adaptation. The producers missed the point on pretty much every level – the game series is popular for its fun representation of martial arts, yet rather than cast martial artists (or even action actors), the movie mainly consisted of useless actors and actresses like Kyle Minogue, and as a result the fight scenes were appalling. There was also seemingly contempt by the producers for the source material - characters were messed with (Blanka/Charlie) and the main character was switched from Ryu to Guile. With the relative success and popularity of the animated Street Fighter movies, which even inspired later instalments of the games, you'd think their little Van Damme 'experiment' would be put to rest for good.

Well, according to Variety, Capcom are giving it another shot anyway. The Hyde Park Entertainment group is currently working on a new live-action Street Fighter film, to be released in 2008 for the series' 20th anniversary. In a worrying move, the film will again shove Ryu to the sidelines, and will apparently focus on the exploits of Chun Li, although details of the storyline are being kept secret for now. Justin Marks, who just finished the script for the upcoming Voltron movie, will write the film.

While Street Fighter's popularity has waned in recent years – mainly because the last official game in the series was released seven years ago – it's still easily the most popular fighting game of all time, having sold over 25 million console games and 500,000 arcade units. Perhaps the best part of this news is that Capcom still acknowledges the series and its fans.

please not Devon Aoki, she just doesnt suit Chun Li. Chun Li is also Chinese.
Besides Devon cant play her for another reason, she's not wealthy enough, Chun Li is the "richest" person in the Street Fighter series because of her huge assets. icon_razz.gif
