Also at the conference, information surrounding the pricing of the Virtual Console (VC) was revealed. The VC allows users to download games from previous Nintendo systems directly from the internet to play on the Wii. Pricing in Japan will be:
NES - ¥500 (US$4.24 / AU$5.65 / £2.26 / €3.35)
SNES - ¥800 (US$6.80 / AU$9.04 / £3.62 / €5.36)
Nintendo 64 - ¥1,000 (US$8.50 / AU$11.30 / £4.52 / €6.70)
There is set to be between 60 and 30 titles available on the VC by the end of 2006. This includes Mega Drive and PC Engine (Turbo-Grafx/Genesis) games. Following that, there will be 10 new VC games each month.
Finally came the announcement of game prices. It appears that the games will sell for between ¥4,800 (US$41 / AU$54 / £22 / €32) and ¥6,800 (US$58 / AU$77 / £31 / €46) including tax in Japan. Two launch titles were used to demonstrate the difference. Wii
Sports will retail for ¥4800, while The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess will appear in Japanese stores for ¥6800. It appears that Wii Sports will not be bundled with the console in Japan unlike the US.
Stay tuned for PAL launch details in the next 24 hours.
