Sorry for the late notice on this one - we only just got the deal.

Also sorry for the bad formatting on the email (again). I've really got to add some kind of preview on those things.

That's a pretty sweet deal.Kudos to palgn.

I was actually going to be in melbourne and was going to see this but......it didn't work out.Understatement of the century....

Anyways, anyone from palgn to cover it?I know it's not really 'games' related but, ya know. Why not?

I'll be at the 7:30pm Sydney one.

I would have loved to have gone... But I live in SA. icon_sad.gif I would've skipped school on the friday it was on and go to the 3:00pm showing. I would've definetly been able to get a few others to go with me too. All well, maybe next year (as if).

I'd love to go, but it's too out of the way, too short notice, plus the bank is demanding all my money already so I can't really spare any. icon_sad.gif

Sounds pretty good! I might see if some of my friends are interested in attending the Sydney session.

I should probably go to this, but I'm tied up tomorrow night. Probably should have paid more attention to the date beforehand.

Went to it with my Mrs. Was quite impressed, it was much better than Piano Stories (which was quite good)

Unfortuately the main pianist couldn't make it which was a bit sad...

They had a few technical issues with the overhead display but besides that, the music was wonderful.

A discount. But, it's so far away from Brisbane.

I actually volunteered for the Melbourne one today, so people might have seen me rushing around. I watched Youmi and the 3:30 show..We had friends upstairs, so we were communicating via Pictochat. Good times, good times.

Volunteering was quite fun actually, mainly because of the free tickets. =P And $5 food voucher I didn't get..and the 800 ticket stubs I had by the end of the day.

For those that were there, I had the messed up poorly dyed hair. xD

Ahh but you forgot to mention those shiny, shiny shoes!! *gleam*

I too was volunteering. I was on the front door for the first two performances, man it was cold!
But i finally got to see the last performance, quite good!

If it's got anything to do with Shadow of Colossus (especially the music) i'm SO there!! So this Friday night huh, i'll have to go to the 7:30pm session.

I went to the 3pm Melbourne show, which didn't start till about 4pm due to the debacle that was 'entry'. It seemed that there was no procedure in place to process people that had pre-booked or prepaid for tickets. So people who already had tickets had to stand in a line 300-deep with people who were waiting to pay at the door.

So we all stood out in the rain for an hour.

Then suddenly everyone was let in all at once, with no ticket checking at all! Since we paid for A Reserve seats, and people were freely flooding into the auditorium without any direction or ushering, I was glad that wifee and I were still able to sit in an A Reserve area, as anyone could have sat anywhere.

As someone mentioned earlier, the visual show was nasty - very 'high school' in that footage had been poorly ripped (i.e. noticeably dropped frames and jerky play back), and in some sections of footage, there was even a line of text at the bottom of the screen: 'ripped by XXXX contact me on: xxxx@gmail.com'!!

There was also no particular synchronisation between footage and music, and frequently the footage would revert back to the standard 'eminence' logo or 'a night in fantasia' poster, then suddenly go back into the footage of animation etc. all during the musical piece. Po!

All in all, I was expecting something very professional, and got something equivalent to a high-school production or less. A total debacle in just about every way except the music itself (which was first-class). The voice-over guy couldn't even pronounce everyone's names when he was introducing musical pieces! I wouldn't have believed it unless I was there to hear it myself.

Having said all that, everyone (volunteers and the few ushers I managed to find) were really friendly and I think this is the only thing that helped smooth things over for many of the attendees. Except the guy outside that was stopping people coming in - he was a smart a$$.

Now on to the music... Fantastic! Really, really amazing musicians playing really amazing music. I focussed mostly on them, and not on the aforementioned 'visual extravaganza'. Of course, the whole event is about the music, and it was great, but it was also tarnished somewhat but the rest of the experience.

Whoa that sucks.

I would have expected it to be some, you know, professionally put together show.

Wow, i'm really shocked. If what you say is true(and why wouldn't it be) that truly sucks.I hope it was a one off.

Ah, that's right. I had those metal shoes on! xD

Concerning the ushering for the 3(4)PM show (That was due to Eminence themselves wanting to practice more, and Youmi going overtime, not our fault)..I did ushering for that session..>_<! If you went to the far corner for A/B Reserve, you woulda seen that I was at least trying to direct people. I do agree that a huge mass of people was hard to direct, but at least not many of them went my way. And as far as I know, in my corner, everyone sat where they were meant to. xD

The reason the video ws done poorly was because it was on a DVD and set into chapters..being run on a Playstation2. The FFXII "ripped by" scene was because that was the first high-quality version of the opening sequence ever created, and we must have used that footage. I do admit that part wasn't too well run. Youmi had MUCH better visual footage, mainly was it was left to a group of AMV creators (4 of which were my friends) to create. The footage was fine, just not the way it was run. I do remember the dropped frames though..weren't any for Youmi, however.

I found the MC quite bland as well, his pronounciation wasn't too hot, but I doubt I coulda done better. I might not have been so flat though. Us volunteers were being worked like hell, and there was no organization, so many things went wrong..I just hope this doesn't happen again also. Should have been a one of blunder! Next time, things will run better dammit! I'm thinking of becoming a proper Staff Member for Eminence, meaning something would be under my control, so I could try to run things a little better. Or just steal the MC position, either way.

I give my heart out to the Merchandising Volunteers, they worked their souls for the ENTIRE time, and only because there was intervention by some of the other volunteers (myself included) were they allowed to see the third evening show.

Professionally run show? It was meant to be, there were just a lot of problems that were not under our control.

Ticketing..Let me explain. Melbourne Town Hall will not let ANYONE inside until the specified time, in which case the middle row was for those that had their tickets, the left rows were for those that wanted to purchase at the door, or get a PAID stamp (Which somehow ended up on my forehead) for their tickets. The organiztion was rough, but it kinda worked. Once again, was out of our control.

I was unaware of the no ticket checking though..I did ticket checking for Youmi (Just ask, I had around 300 ticket stubs in my left breast pocket. xD), not for ANIF 3PM, so I didn't see what happened there.

It was good to know that some of the volunteers helped out and made the experience better for you! I hope I was one of them! But hey, we learn by error..Next time will be better, I assure you! Well..it better be, otherwise I won't be happy either. xD

Note: I didn't eat during the day..Trust me, things were chaos, I didn't even get time for a snack, or a drink.

Any otherquestions, ask me or The Wreckoning (You got into third show? Great! I recall you being stuck out there for so long! >_<!)

Yeah yoshi from you and macca say, it sounds like an issue higher up the chain.

From the looks of it, everyone on the ground was pulling there weight and putting 110% in, but with such a big event some planning needs to be exercised before the event, and sadly that doesn't look like that has happened.Maybe they weren't expecting such a turn out?If that was the case, hopefully we can put it down to teething problems and they should be able to now know what sort of crowds are to be expected from future shows, and act accordingly.
Well, a week before it we were grossly undersold. I think the turnout might have been a little higher than some predicted.
AFAIK - The group who runs the Melbourne concerts have only been doing it for a short while, so presumably there are still teathing problems in trying to deal with something as large as ANIF. I'm sure they'll learn from this year's mistakes.
For sure, things will definetly run smoother next year. This was the first time, le trial run.

At least they're giving us volunteers free Pho on Sunday. Mmm, Pho.
I hope they run it again next year - surely some of these issues will be sorted out by then. I know the volunteers were doing their best - I volunteer for stuff regularly so I know what it's like to be put in a position where you're trying to deal with issues caused by poor decisions made 'higher up'.

DarkYoshii - you mentioned there were actually different lines to wait in, middle row for people with tickets, left for door sales, etc. However this didn't seem to happen!? We were all in one giant line!

Anyway, as I said, the music was amazing, just a pity about the rest of it. If they do it again next year I'll go again.

The Japanese lead violinist was unbelievable.
Well, there were at lot of errors that were sheer disorganization, however I believe that it was out first huge event, it ran quite well. Next year we'll definetly take a lot more initiative, and it shall run a lot better.

The One Line thing, we just couldn't get people in, and we were having trouble directing people to where they needed to be. That was Kevin (Melb. Town hall) staff problem though, so I don't know, I was busy in Main Hall trying to find musical stands, among other things.

Yeah, do come again next year, as I've heard we are planning to have ANIF 07 here. It'll be ran a lot better next time, at least I hope.

And aye, Hiroaki Yura is one crazy-go-nuts violinist. Mass gamer too, and he has his Level 60 Paladin to prove it. >_> Aya needed a solo though..(Violin, 2nd chair)

i went to the sunday 7:30 one in melbourne

tickets didnt get checked could have just sat anywhere really

the music was awesome and the katamari song was badass
5 years ago
Ohhhh yeah, the 7:30 show was hell. I did a little ushering in the same corner, but I was manning merchandising most of the time during the show.. And by that I mean playing Mario Kart DS as we had no customers.
