Australian sales charts, week ending 04/06/06

PALGN News | Goal.
With the days left until the 2006 World Cup getting awfully close to zero, World Cup fever is officially starting to grip the country. The charts reflect this, with FIFA 2006 World Cup on PS2 taking the #1 position for the first time this week. Buzz: The Big Quiz stayed put at #2, while last week's surprise #1, Metroid Prime: Hunters, fell to #3. At #4 is Singstar Rocks, climbing up a few places from last week. Buzz keeps on quizzing at #5, with the buzzer-less version of The Big Quiz fighting back up the charts.

At #6 sees the re-entry of the Eyetoy: Play 3 bundle, followed closely by 50 Cent: Bulletproof at #7. Let's hope it actually falls out of the charts this time around. The charts wouldn't be complete without at least one Sims game - so, of course, The Sims 2: Open for Business managed to hold its ground at #8. #9 is the only new entry of the week, Hitman: Blood Money for the PS2. Closing out the charts is another surprising re-entry by Mario Kart DS.

The charts are updated weekly and are provided by GfK.

Awesome to see Mario Kart get back up there, even if it will only be brief. Perhaps those sales did more for the casual gaming market than people realise?

Or perhaps it's just because of the DS Lite? Either way, it's awesome stuff. If Metroid Prime: Hunters can make the top position well then I am certainly expecting Mario will next week too.

just wait until Mario is released.

So just how well is the 360 selling in relation to everything else?

Good question. I would be very interested in Australia 360 sales figures and/or worldwide.

It's such a horrible sight to see 50 Cent: Bulletproof make a return.

How does a game go up to #10 in a list out of 10? Shouldn't it be a new entry?

how many freaking "The Sims 2" expansions are there?

jeez.

Well I went to buy it today and everywhere was sold out... Not a great indication because that was the case with Mario Kart DS as well and didn't do that well in the charts

I think there are three official expansions plus another one with just objects in them. icon_wink.gif

The actual list goes a lot longer than 10 (it probably includes every single game being sold at the moment actually). We only get to see the top 10 though.

Is there somewhere we can go to on the Web where we can see the longer version of these lists? I'd be intersted to see not only the top 10 but, say, the top 20.

But if thats the case, and Eye Toy Play 3 is a re-entry, but it gets a star, would that imply it wasn't on that huge list at all? And if the huge sales list was infact every single game, wouldn't that imply that Eye Toy 3 made absolutely no sales for at least one week?

It makes no sense.

Yeah I understand how it's confusing. It's the same as the music Top 40 though - it doesn't end there, I think with music it goes to about 100 or 200. You just gotta be in the industry to hear and see the rest of the numbers.

PALGN staff, are you privy to a longer list anywhere?
