SNK supporting the Nintendo Wii

PALGN News | First up - Metal Slug Anthology.
SNK told IGN today that they have signed up to develop games for Wii, and the first thing they have going is a compilation of all the Metal Slug games. The games will not be released over the Nintendo Wi-fi download service (yet), but Metal Slug Anthology will be a retail package of all six Neo Geo originals: Metal Slug, Metal Slug 2, Metal Slug X, Metal Slug 3, Metal Slug 4 and Metal Slug 5. All the original art and animation will be retained from the Neo Geo versions of the game, as well as plenty of bonus material.

"Fans worldwide have been looking forward to our return to Nintendo platforms and what better way then to bring our complete Metal Slug arcade collection to Wii," said SNK Playmore USA Corporation president Ben Herman. "This will be a full arcade collection including many additional surprises". One of those surprises has already been revealed – an (assumedly optional) method of controlling the games with the motion sensing Wii controller. "The Wii controller will be used in a new and unique way that enhances the gameplay”.

SNK has previously produced games on Nintendo's NES, SNES and N64, as well as GB, GBA and soon DS, so this isn't really a surprise, but after they skipped the Gamecube, this is a vote of of confidence in the Wii. As usual, more info is promised to be revealed at E3, where Metal Slug Anthology for Wii will be playable in some form, and official screenshots and details will be released.

Seems kinda weird that this game is heading to PSP and Wii, 2 consoles that are pretty different... Are Wii owners going to even care? Maybe Nintendo asked SNK for some games for the virtual console, and this is their response.

Shuddup you.

I think it'll be great as Metal Slug is good on any console. icon_razz.gif The question now is how will the game utilise the controller?

If I get to choose, I'll be gladly pick up the PSP version (provided the loading time is good) for the portability of it, and give Wii version a miss.
