Naka to leave Sega?

PALGN News | Sonic and NiGHTS creator could set up own studio.
Yuji Naka, the head of Sega's Sonic Team who has been responsible for the likes of Sonic, Phantasy Star Online and NiGHTS, could be about to quit Sega. According to sources close to Sega, the inspirational designer is considering setting up his own studio, much like Tetsuya Mizuguchi, who left Sega in late 2003 and went on to create ace titles such as Lumines and Meteos.

The loss of the 40-year old Naka would be a considerable loss to Sega, though the sources behind the story of Naka leaving also suggest that Naka's new company will be coupled with Sega through a financial arrangement of some description. As soon as we have more details, we'll get back to you.

AWESOME, Naka has been held down by SEGA for long enough. The man needs a break from Sonic. I consider his most brilliant work to be the silky NiGHTS and the sleek Burning Rangers - putting out space fires was never so much fun! - unique ideas, but nietch titles from a forgotton platform. I'm so pleased his creative genius is free.

Still I shed an obsequeous tear for the SEGA tree as another of it's ripest fruit drops from the bough. Amen

Great!

Sega completely ruined the Shining Force series by cutting ties with Camelot, let's see how badly they can ruin Sonic without Naka.

Is this company technically even Sega anymore?
