Australian Sales Charts, Week Ending 27/11/05

PALGN News | Apparently, Most Wanted is a rather apt sub-title.
After less than one week on sale, Need for Speed: Most Wanted on the PS2 has already grabbed #1 on the charts - unsurprising, really, given the success of past Underground games. As a result, former #1, Buzz: The Music Quiz, has been forced to a still-respectable #2, and Eyetoy: Play 3 has dropped to #3. Debuting this week at #4 is Smackdown vs. Raw 2006, proving that they have finally run out of sub-titles for the series. #5 sees the third of Sony's gimmick games, Singstar 80s.

Eyetoy: Play 3 makes a second appearance - this time without the camera bundled in - at #6. The only non-PS2 entrant this week is at #7 - the Xbox version of Need for Speed: Most Wanted. Harry Potter's Mighty Goblet of Fire slid as a result of the new entries to #8 this week, while Ratchet: Gladiator snuck in for a #9 debut. Finally, closing out the charts at #10 is Star Wars: Battlefront II.

The charts are updated weekly and are provided by GfK.

And so the PS2 shows its dominance in install base in the lead up to Christmas.

That's surprising. Mario Kart DS came and went very quickly in the 'all consoles' top ten charts.

I've only seen Mario Kart in one store in the past week, which would seem to suggest that it either shipped in low quantities or completely sold out in the first week... or both.

Unless theres a huge stockpile everywhere but Rundle Mall. Maybe.

Yeah - I havn't been able to buy it. My JBs, EBs, Kmart (KB's?) and BW had no copies.

KM? (I like your abbreviation work.)

Yeah I was with a friend last night and he couldn't find it at EB or BW either. Weirdness. It's like the XB360 shortage, except not.

I was definitely expecting Most Wanted to hit the top position for this week (and next too), but I wasn't expecting the Xbox version to be that low on the list. I would have guessed a second placing, but anyway. Whatever, the game deserves to be there this time.

Interesting to see three of the top ten involve special "device" oriented play.

Singstar
Buzz
Eyetoy

Just goes to show the strength of Sony's PS2 platform to appeal to all type of gamers.
