Christmas Buyers Guide - Parents

PALGN Feature | Need some help picking something for the tykes this Christmas? PALGN's got you covered.
It’s not easy being a parent, especially at Christmas time. At PALGN, we understand that many parents are just too busy to keep up with the games industry to find out which are the best games to get their kids for Christmas. Since we’re just about to head into the biggest shopping period of the year, we took the time to come up with a list of reasonably priced, child friendly games that we think any kid will enjoy this holiday season, just to help the parents out. Trust us, there’s nothing worse than a kid who gets a crappy game for Christmas (just ask Matt’s parents).

PALGN REVIEW: 8.5 | BUY NOW: PS2

Fizzwidget’s latest product has been stolen by a masked figure, and just happens to be rather unstable, given that it is still in its testing phase. Mr. Fizzwidget extends an offer that Ratchet cannot refuse; the promise of adventure that he?s been longing for, a fully paid health plan, access to new weapon technology, a penthouse suite in Megapolis, and the chance to receive training to become a certified commando. Meanwhile, since Clank is hesitant to reunite with Ratchet on another set of adventures, Mr. Fizzwidget lures Clank to stay by offering him a cushy accounting job at Megacorp.

Ratchet & Clank: Locked and Loaded is packing all the features that made the original game great, and goes that extra bit further, offering new RPG elements for Ratchet and his weaponry. D: Naughty Dog | P: Sony Computer Entertainment
OFLC Rating: G
PALGN REVIEW: 8.0 | BUY NOW: PS2

While not exactly a new title, the first game in the Jak series is easily the most family friendly, featuring a light hearted adventure instead of the darker, more mature edge of the sequels. Jak and his best friend Daxter take off on an adventure to Misty Island, despite the wishes of the village elder, the Green Sage. Daxter falls into a pit of dark eco, and is transformed into a small, prairie dog-like creature. Jak & Daxter is an evolution of the popular platformers featured on the PlayStation and Nintendo 64 – huge levels, lots of things to see and do, and fun for people of all ages.

Dragon Ball Z is still popular, and as a result we’ve got two games in the list. Players can go head to head with any of the 70+ characters featured from the series and movies, or relive classic moments and all new “what if” scenarios. While a little violent, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi is one of the most exciting child-friendly releases of 2005.

Nice idea. icon_smile.gif

Although you have the RRP for Mario Kart DS as $99.95! I know it's more like $59 or $69 for the genuine RRP, but it can be had for $49 as well (JB Hi Fi)

Thanks for pointing that out. Feel like a goose now icon_razz.gif

$49? It was $62 at JBs when I went there. Is it $49 in a catalog or something?
$49 at JB HiFi at Chatswood at lunch time yesterday. That was the price on the shelf. They have a dedicated games catalogue out now but it doesn't have Mario Kart listed on its own, only as the bundle for $193. I'm 100% sure that was the ticketed price though, as I was shocked myself and triple checked!

Nice guide, but the media panel is stretching the coverart so it looks ugly.

Yeah, I tried to prevent that by uploading them first, but i originally put them up at 100x140 or something, and they were a bit too big. For the PS2, Xbox et al, the problem has been fixed.

Would it be possible to just write a tag that displayed coverart underneath the name without appearing as media- or just giving them an attribute that stops them being displayed in the panel?
Could have uploaded them to the FTP and displayed them using the regular image tag, but meh. It's takes about 2 hours to do all the image retrieval, reshaping, resizing, coding, formatting, and then another couple of hours to write the thing icon_razz.gif

X-D is just a new story. Nothing more. Its a total waste of money. Most gamers that have bought it I am sure are feeling regret, including myself icon_smile.gif

Isn't every Pokemon game just a new story, and occasionally new pokemon?

Besides, you get a free Gamecube with it (or vice versa, which ever way you want to look at it)

Think the $99 Pokemon+Gamecube deal was limited to Toys R Us - the actual RRP is still $199.

X-D may not be quite up to the GBA games standards, but it is way better than Colosseum at the very least, and IMO, way more fun to play.

Whats your problem AussieNintendo? Everything posted on PalGN only seems to come at a negative to you.

Besides Pokemon games are still quite popular with the kids (and some adults alike) and the games are solid.

I've been looking every where to get one of these bundle for $99 after some one told me about it. Apparently the deal is off though icon_cry.gif

Any one know where they are still selling them (or similar cheap offers)?
