EGX05: Opens Today

PALGN News | There's still time to head down to check out the action.
As we announced earlier this week, Australia’s first games-only expo is being held in Sydney today. There will be displays by Sony and Vivendi Universal, along with playable games on PS2, PSP, DS and PC from various publishers.

Below is the schedule for the competitions that will run on the day. If you wish to participate in a competition, you must register at a table near the stage and where eminence will be selling merchandise.

The convention is on now, but there is still time to attend the event if you're quick. Some of the PALGN's staff will be at the event so it's definitely worth popping in to celebrate the cause.

EGX05 Schedule
11:00am - 12:00pm Registration for V8 Supercars and Tekken 5 Competitions will be open.
12:30pm - 3:00pm V8 Supercars and Tekken 5 Competitions will commence.
11:00am - 3:00pm Registration for FEAR and Bomberman Competitions will be open.
3:00pm - 6:00pm FEAR and Bomberman Competitions will commence.
6:00pm - 6:45pm WINNER announcements and PRIZE presentation.

When: Sunday 30 October 2005
Hours: 11am - 7pm
Tickets: $10 at the door
Where: Lower Sydney Town Hall. Entry from Sydney Square entrance only.
Web: http://www.eminenceonline.com/egx

Several of the PALGN staff (David, Jeremy and myself) will be around during the day. If you can spot us, come and give us your PALGN username and you might get a nice surprise. Our pictures are in the media panel.

As a final note, don’t forget to bring your PSP or DS (and games) for some Wi-Fi multiplayer action.

We look forward to seeing some of you there.

Man-EVEN if i spent the $30 bucks and took the 3 hour train trip to sydney to catch this thing-i STILL have to work tmoz anyways.

This is officially my first 12day work week straight and im not happy.

AND, to rub some extra, heavy duty style sea salt into the wound, its daylight savings tonight/eartly tmoz, so i LOSE an hours sleep before work tmoz as well.

God, someone give me tissue!

I really wanted to go to this thing just to see the palgn crew and shake their hand and just chill a bit.

Ok what is that red thing? It looks like a dogs foodbowl?

ANd, ya know, im not ripping on the event, but it looks(from la's pics anyways) to be a slightly.....reserved showing by both gamers AND developers.I see more of the floor then people and/or stands....

Still would have been great! And you didnt even see any oif palgn crew? That would have been half the pull for me!Or there gift at least lol.

This show would have to be THE biggest let down of the year, I spent $50 to travel from newcastle the syndey (includes petrol, parking and entry) just for what? to see a psp with games i already own, watch some kids play fear, and see a few ds with demos loaded into them? Where was the xbox 360 in the photos? Where was the wifi lounge? there wasn't even a wireless network in the place, This was the biggest let down, unless I see good evidence that next years show will be any better I wont be returning, i could have spent $10 (including travel) to go to the local computer fair and been much more entertained, big let down, I really wish there was away to get that 8 hours of my life and even just the $10 entry fee back, seriously not even lans charge you $10 to go and watch a few people play games.

I didn't think it was too bad.

It had the basic groundwork, but was certainly lacking in terms of the number of exhibitors. If there were some Australian development studios, more publishers and game retailers, then I think it could do pretty well.

Around 2pm was the bussiest. The comps were pretty cool. Not many people stayed till the end, but the prizes they gave out were good - several PS2s, F.E.A.R packs and plenty of games. If you didn't enter any of the comps it would have been pretty boring.

The Wi-Fi area was fun. They didn't really have any signs up, but people were hanging around there playing both PSP and DS most of the day. I actually met someone who had actually bought a PSP just for the movies! I guess Sony isn't insane afterall icon_wink.gif

Oh and no one came up to say hello to any of the PALGN crew there icon_sad.gif I saw a few people looking at me, but no one actually said hello. I guess no one wins the awesome surprise we had lined up. Oh well icon_twisted.gif

Considering the lack, of female palgn members, that'd have to be a no icon_razz.gif

So, who do we give the free Xbox to now then?

The event sounded pretty average, the layout looks horrible, but this event seemed to be fairly rushed. We only knew about it roughly a week before it was set to open, and it didn't seem like the company organising the event went to the trouble to pick-up enough developers. And what that Dewy person said about the company's displays, well doesn't really sound inspiring. Probably the only thing that sounded decent was the Wi-Fi and the competitions.

I wonder how the musical event turned out though. Now I'm sure that would've been amazing.
