Female game characters get their kit off for Playboy. Again.

PALGN News | Those bills won't pay themselves.
Just as the stereotype of all gamers being nerdy, slightly lonely and socially awkward 16-25 year old males seemed as though it might be about to crumble, along comes the annual naked-female-game-characters feature in Playboy magazine to take us another few steps backwards. Hurray! So, what are we on about?

Well, some of you may be aware that last year, the World's most famous adult magazine ran a set of photospreads dedicated to female gaming characters, all of whom were wearing little more than a cheeky grin. The pin-ups included characters from Bloodrayne and some girl from Leisure Suit Larry. If you've worn those issues out however [Your words - Ed], then there's a new set of girls for the 2005 edition, with the most surprising new entrant in this year's parade of digital flesh being none other than Fahrenheit's leading lady, Carla.

Which is a bit of a shame if you ask us, especially considering that Fahrenheit was quickly gaining a reputation as a mature, well-considered piece of digital entertainment. But alas, she's set to be splashed across the pages of Playboy wearing handcuffs and nothing else, alongside heroines from Blitz: The League, God Of War, Darkwatch, 50 Cent: The Mansion and Playboy: The Mansion - Private Party.

Meanwhile, Playboy senior editor Scott Alexander defended the decision to have videogame characters posing in the buff, arguing that, 'Wherever you stand on which is worse for kids - sex or violence - the issue really is there's content for grownups and there's content for kids. Playboy is a magazine for adults. We report on adult topics, such as oil prices. Generation Pokémon doesn't really care about that.' Of course, Scott. Because it's not like kids to try and get their hands on something they're denied access to, right? Right.

(And before any of you ask: no, we're a family site).

That is honestly one of the saddest reflections on humanity...

It doesn't bother me that Playboy exists, or that it publishes naked pictures.
I mean, it's a product aimed at a certain market, and is not meant for consumption by the entire public.
There's a demand, and it supplies to that demand.

BUT.
Come on... naked videogame characters?
There is something inherently disfunctional about that.
I'll spell it out for you...

I think I've made my point.

Yep, it's aimed at the gamers who can play Dead or Alive: Extreme Beach Volleyball with one hand.

given that most females in videogames appear in costumes leaving nothing to the imagination anyway, is there any point?

*wonders what articles will be in that issue*

This will probably make me sound perverted but I might actually pick the issue containing the article up. I personally would like to see how these characters are portrayed when compared to the pictures released for hype or whatever to do with the gaming side of things. That and I haven't read an issue of Playboy for a while, it would be nice to see what articles they have compared to the last issue I read 2 years ago.

It would be nice to see the articles, wouldn't it? icon_razz.gif

But yeah, it would be interesting to check it out. Not something I'd ogle and pin up on my wall though.

The last issue that contained these female video game characters must have done well since Playboy are releasing another similar issue.

^ baroo?

you said in your article that this is the second issue to have gaming pinups, "includ(ing) characters from Bloodrayne and some girl from Leisure Suit Larry."

(Luba Luscious in case you care. no i don't have the mag OR the game, i just remember the name for some random reason)

so, if they're releasing another similar spread, the first must've sold well.

Couldn't they have picked characters who are actually hot, though?

I mean, uh... it's atrocious.
