Australian Sales Charts, Week Ending 04/09/05

PALGN News | ...Well, that's one way to kill the dominance of Pokémon Emerald, and set a ton of records in the process.
Well, we can forget about the home consoles - no PS2 or Xbox games - this week is ALL about the handheld. The PSP launched last Thursday to a ridiculous reception, taking NINE - yes, NINE - positions in the top 10, and finally unseating Pokémon Emerald from the top spot.

At #1, we disappointingly have Need for Speed Underground Rivals, followed at #2 by Ridge Racer. Surprisingly, the hack n' slash of Untold Legends finished off the podium at #3. Going back to the racing theme is V8 Supercars 2, taking #4. Medievil was at #5, while yet ANOTHER (but the best) PSP racer, WipEout Pure, took #6. The Metal Gear name saw the slightly quirky Ac!d through to #7, while Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix skated its way to #8. Breaking up the seemingly never-ending run of PSP games at #9 is former champion Pokémon Emerald, the only non-PSP game in the charts this week. Closing up the charts this week is Ape Academy, which will no doubt make Chris happy.

It is disappointing that, despite there being nine PSP games in the top 10, Lumines couldn't get a place. Sigh.

Will the PSP dominance continue? Or will normality be restored? Find out next week - same PAL time, same PAL channel. Errr, pretend we didn't say that.

The charts are updated weekly and are provided by GfK.

Yeah I'm surprised that there is a game in the top 10 that's not for psp.

Damn, that's a pretty strong launch there, should be interesting to see whether it lasts for a few more weeks, especially with Nintendogs coming out in 2 weeks..

looks like not many new gba games ever get into the top 10. Pokemon -all 5 are still there. Guess not that many are released into PAL region. What a shame...

Looks like many people don't mind the $79.95 price tag for the PSP titles.

Well, everyone who bought a console had to buy a game this week. So either they sold a hellava lot of consoles, or no one game was the dominant seller. Probably both.

Bizzare that pokemon still got in there. And it will prob be back to No1 within a couple of weeks. I don't understand how certain games keep selling - maybe kids birthdays spread out the sales?

Holy sh**t! That's an amazing start for the PSP's game sales.

*Sighs* as expected, the crappy games got whiff ahead of the much better games, a little bit disappointing.

It is Australia though. "durr sports and racing games" always sell well.
