Australian Sales Charts, Week Ending 07/08/05

PALGN News | Some surprising re-entries this week.
It's getting ridiculous now. Pokemon Emerald simply will not budge from the top spot, regardless of what is thrown at it, easily making it the most successful Nintendo game in years. Cricket 2005 on the PS2 also made a healthy jump this week, rising two places to #2. Tekken 5 has received some staggering marketing over the past few weeks, not seen since the release of Halo 2 last November. As a result, it climbs again this week to #3. These two rises were at the expense of Singstar Pop though, which dropped to #4.

#5 saw the most surprising re-entry we've seen since we started covering the charts. Star Wars Battlefront made a return, thanks to some heavy discounting. Underneath that at #6 was Cricket 2005 for the Xbox. Hopefully it is soon replaced in the charts by the much better Ricky Ponting Cricket. Battlefield 2 climbed a position to #7, after making a surprise re-entry last week. At #8, in another odd re-entry, is World of Warcraft - probably a result of some discounting over the past few weeks. #9 sees Juiced, finally slipping out of the charts after spending far too long at the top. Finally, at #10 is the latest Medal of Honor game, European Assault.

It should be noted that this is only the second week since its release last November that San Andreas has not been in the charts - no doubt as a result of the ban.

The charts are updated weekly and are provided by GfK.

what was done to advertise Tekken 5?

i haven't seen any new advertising in WA since its release, just the bus ads that have been around for a while (rearrange some familiar faces etc.)

There is heaps of Tekken 5 adverising done on Foxtel. I think I have seen a Tekken 5 ad at least 2 times this afternoon, I think both on MTV.

ah ok, i don't have foxtel so i haven't seen it...

There have been hundreds of posters (on buses etc) for Tekken 5 in sydney - about 50% of them concerntrating on minor character Christie and suggesting a sexual angle. They feature a shot of Christie showing cleavage and an 'I want you big boy' smile, with the phrase 'All slap, no tickle'.

Also, isn't it funny how advertising works so directly? A 'just ok' 3D fighter (PALGN score 85%, gamerankings average 88% - even including the bizarre score of 100% given to it by Gampespy), that was released in the USA 6 months ago, and sales jump just because of an immature ad campagn.

We're just pawns

^ yeah we've got them in WA all over our buses, but the article implied these were new... in WA at least they've been used since before the game came out... in fact most of them are now being changed to Kung Fu Hustle ads...

They only turned up here a week or so ago.

man you guys are sooo behind the times...

sheesh, them ads are sooo July icon_razz.gif

EDIT: i just realised, i don't think i've even seen a copy of Tekken 5 on the shelves... so we might be ahead with the advertising, but not the actual product... icon_lol.gif
