Supanova 2003!

PALGN News | Sydney - Supanova is this weekend! Never heard of it? Chances are it'll have something for you. There's even an Xbox door prize this year!
Supanova is a pop culture expo. It covers everything from anime to music and scifi and is located at Wharf 8, Sydney.

Some of the guests present will be:

o Ben Hawker - Sculptor from the Lord of the Rings & WETA Workshop
o Antonio Lemos - Artist renowned for his The Phantom covers
o Monty Wedd - A legend of Aussie comics known for The Scorpion and Ned Kelly
o Jonathan Hardy - Voice of Rygel XVI in Farscape
o Sandi Finlay - Sly Moore, Star Wars: Attack of the Clones
o Mary Oyoya - Jedi Master Luminara Unduli, Star Wars: Attack of the Clones

Scifi/fantasy authors who will be conducting a Discussion Panel each day of Supanova at 1.00pm:

o Kate Forsyth - The Witches of Eileanan
o Garth Nix - The Old Kingdom Trilogy
o Sean Williams - Star Wars: New Jedi Order

DragonBall Z Card Tournament

DragonBall Z tournaments will be occurring both days of Supanova, with a warm-up on Saturday ($5 entry and will have boosters and promo cards as prizes), and the main event stoush Sunday ($10 entry and the main prize a sealed box of the latest expansion of the DBZ card game, Babidi Saga - value $210, with further 2nd and 3rd place prizes as well). So make sure you visit Absolute Games for your chance to compete and win!

You Can Be a Mighty Bean Too!

With the creator and illustrator of the Mighty Beanz themselves, Mark Sheard, attending Supanova as a Special Guest at the Mighty Beanz stand, what other chance will you ever have of getting drawn as a Mighty Bean by the man himself? None I tell you, so you better make sure you don't miss your chance!

Transformers, Simpsons, Futurama and Wild Thornberrys

This is the range of comics that Otter Press is going to have available at Supanova 2003. #1 flew off the shelf so quickly that's its lucky they found some more to coincide with the release of Transformers #2, that has Parts 3 & 4 of the Generations Saga inside. Then there's the next issue of Futurama available (#5) and the next Treehouse of Horror featuring The Simpsons (#2). But it gets even better with the first crossover between Futurama & The Simpsons, before going ballistic with The Wild Thornberrys Movie Magazine!

Xbox

Not only is Xbox going to be at Supanova 2003 so that you try out their games, but they have also donated one Xbox Gaming System to be given away as the Second Prize in our Lucky Door Competition! So when you turn up, make sure you fill in your contact details nice and clearly, and that way, they’ll be able to get in contact with you if you win.

Tickets

Check out the Supanova website for more info. Tickets are available from Ticketek or at the door, but to avoid the queues we recomend you choose Ticketek.

Yada, yada, yada

I'm helping there, this year as one of the event's volunteers, so make sure you say hi if you see me. There won't be many people wearing the Supanova t-shirt who look like me, so you can pretty sure you won't make a fool of yourself icon_wink.gif

Whoa! I've been helping out set things up there this evening and it looks pretty good so far. There will be anime all day and cosplay in the evening.

EA, Inforgames & Xbox all have stalls set up from the gaming area. There's also loads of other cool stuff. Plenty of comics as would be expected and TV, starwars stuff etc...

So if you live in Syd, you should make an effort. It's on both Sat & Sun.

I'll be there with bells on! Anime theatre here I come! WoOoOoO!!!

On a side-note here, how did you get the privilege of helping set up this stuff?

Heh - being part of Anime societies comes in very useful. We all got asked.

It's a very good deal - free entry obviously and we only have to help out half the day. Plus we get the cool t-shirts.

Are you going tomorrow or Sunday? I'll be there all day tomorrow, I don't know if I'll go Sunday - I'd like some weekend icon_razz.gif

Say hello if you see me! When I'm not helping I'll probably be watching the anime or playing at the EA area icon_razz.gif (they have FOUR massive flat screen tv's setup).

Yeah I thought of that, but they're not real "reps" just hot guys and girls told what to say to promote the system - they're not the actual marketing people.

Today was pretty good. I might go tomorrow evening to grab some free stuff when everything closes icon_twisted.gif

I got my SP today too!
