New Mortal Kombat movie gets go-ahead

PALGN News | Krushingly inevitable.
Undeterred by the meagre box office takings and the (fully deserved) critical pummellings that the first two films received, Midway has announced that a third film based on the company's popular beat 'em up franchise Mortal Kombat is to be made. We know, try and contain your joy.

Mortal Kombat 3: Devastation (tagline: 'The rules don't matter anymore!') is apparently being filmed in Louisana as you read this, with Threshold Entertainment the guilty party. And although actual details are a tad sparse at the moment, IMDB.com informs us that the cast is to include Linden Ashby, Chris Casamassa, Keith Cooke, Adoni Maropis and Robin Shou. And no, we've never heard of them either.

this has been in pre-production longer than i can remember...

since MK5 (Deadly Alliance) came out at least... i remember finding it on the official MK site when i got the game... the site hadn't been updated in a while and i was kinda hoping it would stay in pre-production indefinately...

Robin Shou was Liu Kang and Linden Ashby was Johnny Cage in both other MK films... Linden has done quite a bit of western cinema work, and Robin Shou was in a lot of Eastern (ie: Martial Arts) films

and i think Adoni Maropis played Quan Chi in the games... which is kinda cool...

Is this actually getting a cinema release, or is going to be straight to video?

One good thing to come out of the films were the soundtracks.

^ thats true...

the soundtracks were always cool... i just hope they continue using good artists instead of the Nu-metal sh!t favoured by many soundtracks these days
