More Sonic than you can shake a stick at

PALGN News | Five Sonic games to be released in 2003, along with a new cartoon series and a bunch of action figures and collectables.
As we all know, Sega still aren't out of the woods when it comes to their financial situation. In an attempt to help their monetary situation, Sega have announced that they will be giving their flagship character, Sonic the Hedgehog, a big push throughout 2003.

First off is a new Sonic cartoon series which will begin in Europe in Autumn. Sega are working with a Japanese production team rather than an American team on this particular cartoon, so expect a bit of a departure from the previous cartoons.

Next up is a series of new Sonic collectables and action figures to be produced in Japan.

However, despite the cartoons and toys, we all know Sonic is primarily a game character, and there will be no shortage of the blue hedgehog this year, as Sega intend to release 5 new Sonic titles in Europe this year. While we can account for three of these titles (Sonic Adventure: DX, Sonic Advance 2 and Sonic Pinball), this means that two all new Sonic titles will be released this year. I guess we'll have to wait for E3 for more answers.

Speaking on the new plan, Sega's respected head of Sonic development, Yuji Naka, says that, "This means our dream comes true. The next business year will become the Sonic year for Sega group, centered on the TV program. We would like to make Sonic as big as Pokemon."

Dammit I wish Mega Collection would get here. How many times can a game be delayed? icon_evil.gif

So basically it is one or two games which we haven't heard of yet. What's the betting it has Sonic CD and Knuckles Chaotix on it?

I don't care if I lose that bet, just that's what I want. Well forget Sonic CD. Put on that arcade game and some game gear games and that would be better.

I'm assuming it is Sonic Adventure 3, let's hope these big plans make it as fun as the 2D ones.

Dang it, if I had enough money, I would buy a copy of The Sonic Mega Collection. I missed those games when I was a youngster ( played Super Mario instead ). I only got to try them ( Sonic 3 mainly ) a couple of times at my friend's houses - and yes, the concept was - and still is - quite addictive. Speedy mayhem, and a two-player option. Schweet.

I demand you save up and buy it immediately. Sonic 3 is great... but Sonic 2 is The Game. Quite possibly the definitive Sega platformer and certainly the best Sonic has ever been. I must have played it at least once a week for the past eight or nine years..

I think I will buy the Sonic Mega Game Collection as a snack between the two main meals - Super Monkey Ball 2 and Zelda: The Wind Waker icon_wink.gif Thanks for the head up, anyway.

Ghaz Sonic Mega Collection has been out in Australia since I last made that post.

Definitely my most played game, until Pokemon and Metroid of course *Two more weeks icon_biggrin.gif *

I always remember the Sonic games a lot harder, but I've been almost able to finish Sonic 1, 2 and 3. But yet I haven't finished the last two worlds icon_razz.gif. I really hated the fact in the old days how there was no saving, but I guess that's a good way to get gamers to continue to play over and over. Also Sonic 3D is the worst Sonic game i've seen icon_razz.gif Sega what were you thinking?

Oh yeah I love in the old days how they use to say 'Sega' at the start of the games icon_biggrin.gif Man the good ol' days.

I remember the arguments I had with my Sega-owning friends - we pondered whether Mario would win Sonic in a fight. Good times icon_smile.gif
