Turok set for next-gen return

PALGN News | Dinosaur hunter rescued from extinction.
It feels like only last week, but in actual fact the first Turok game appeared nearly a decade ago, turning up on Nintendo's brand spanking new N64 console in early-1997. Back then, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter was one of the more impressive titles to emerge from the first few weeks of the N64's illustrious lifespan and now, even though every Turok game since the original has been, well, a tad rubbish, Buena Vista Games has seen fit to try and revive the franchise to it's former glory.

The publisher who originally held the rights to the prehistoric hero, Acclaim, went into liquidation back in 2004. Since then, the dinosaur hunter has been left unemployed, though it now looks like a return will be on the cards sooner rather than later, with BVG assuring us they'll be 'redefining Turok videogames'. Blimey.

'It's our goal to capture the essence of Turok and the rich, prehistoric creatures and environments, and leverage new technology and game play mechanics to create the Turok game we've only dreamed about,' said studio head Josh Holmes, possibly the only man PALGN has encountered to dream about building the perfect Turok game. 'It is exciting for everyone at the studio to be a part of building a franchise for the next generation of Turok titles,' continues Monsieur Holmes, 'as we all grew up reading the comic books and playing the first games.' Well, probably just the first actually, Josh.

Alas, we're currently still waiting on game details, screenshots and a release date (though we can confirm the new title is being developed by Propaganda Games, BVG's recently established Vancouver studio, for unspecified next-gen consoles), but as soon as we do find out, rest assured you'll be the first to know.

Well, I still maintain that Turok 3 was a fantastic game (one of the few N64 games to feature voice acting and lip-synching), though I've never played Evolution after being told that even at a price of $9.95 at EB, it wasn't worth it. Probably for the better...

Hope this is a return to form, since the ending of Turok 3 basically set up a Turok 4.

wasn't the Turok: Evolution (or whatever the PS2 game was called)supposed to revive the game to it's former glory too?

it was rubbish...

Turok 2 was the best, not 1 (check gamespot or something).

Evolution was ok (I got it for $5 on gamecube) - I think it's matra was 'quantity over quality' becuase while it was nothing special, it lasted for ages - I'd guess it was about 3 times the length of halo 1 (haven't played 2) and it got better and better as it went along, as opposed to halo that got worse as it went along.

And although the best bits of Turok were not as good as the first few levels of halo, I'd say the worst bits of Turok were about equal with the worst bits of halo.

Basically what I'm saying is that it wasn't the worst thing in the world. It was way better then Goldeneye - rouge agent, for example.

Most of the Turok games have been ok. But Evolution on GC was horrible. I traded it into EB for $1 (no joke)
