When Eyetoy: Play 2 was released last year it featured a unique little feature called SpyToy. Spytoy "protected your home from intruders" by turning the USB camera into a surveillance device. It was a small novelty but was a good addition. However, Sony have decided to take this a little further, and release a fully fledged SpyToy game in September this year.
SpyToy offers a variety of surveillance modes, it features new 'face-recognition' technology, SpyToy also allows you to create unique profiles that you, and only you, can unlock! The footage created by the Eyetoy can be fast forwarded, rewound, played in slow motion and edited.
One of the best additions of SpyToy is that the program doubles the photo resolution of 640X480, making the picture better than before, we are really looking forward to seeing clearer images from the Eyetoy camera.
As well as surveillance, SpyToy also offers a suite of games, all themed around and inspired by the world of espionage. Players will have to negotiate missions where they will need to use photo fit, break codes, sky dive, disarm bombs and zoom into locations via satellite to try and uncover a criminal mastermind intent on taking over the world!
SpyToy will be out for the Playstation 2 in September, 2005, PALGN will have more news on Spytoy as soon as it becomes available. We've managed to nab the first screenshots of the game in action, so refer to the media panel for those.
