Jak X: Combat Racing announced

Jak III was a brilliant platformer and as far as PALGN were aware it was also the last game in the series. However, Sony Computer Entertainment has today announced that Naughty Dog are developing Jak X: Combat Racing for the Playstation 2.

This game will be completely different from there previous three platform outings that we are used too. Jak X: Combat Racing will be a combat-heavy driving game.

The game continues where Jak III finished and still focuses on Jak and Daxter. Shortly after the defeat of the Dark Maker in the last episode, the world begins to thrive, and combat racing becomes the planet's biggest attraction. After being invited to a reading of the will of Krew, Jak finds out he has been poisoned. The only way to get the antidote is to represent Krew in the next Kras City Grand Championship of combat racing.

Naughty Dog are promising over 100 events in the games adventure mode, as well as a time trial mode, a death race mode and an arena deathmatch mode. Up to six players are able to race online.

Jak X: Combat Racing looks like one of the most promising games of the year. It is set for release in Quarter 4, 2005 for the Playstation 2. PALGN will have more information on the game as soon as it becomes available.

I'm not sure what to think just yet regarding this game. I love the Jak trilogy and I also love Naughty Dog, so hopefully this isn't just a cash-in on their success and Naughty Dog can actually make this something special.
