Australian Sales Charts - Week Ending 06/03/05

PALGN News | An amazing 6 new entries to the charts this week.
Despite the onslaught of new titles, Super Mario 64 DS has survived to hold onto the #1 position - although, smart money would be on a certain racing game to upstage it next week.

The #2 positions is somewhat surprising, with Sonic Mega Collection Plus coming in at #2 on the PS2, with the Xbox version taking the #6 position. Even more strange is the PS2 version of Playbody: The Mansion taking the #3 spot, and the Xbox version coming in at #7 - sex sells, as they say. The first Sims 2 expansion pack took out #4, shock horror.

The final new entry was Ace Combat 5, placing at #9.

The charts are updated weekly and are provided by GfK.

All Consoles (full priced games)

PS2 (over $50)

GameCube (over $50)

Xbox (over $50)

GBA (over $30)

PC (over $20)

woohoo, i'm a statistic...

i got the Sonic Mega Collection Plus on PS2... i was never really exposed to Sega consoles as everyone i knew had a NES and SNES so thats what i got too (better for swapping and borrowing games i suppose) so in my intrigue i bought the sonic collection... currently running through the first game... but given next weeks number 1 game, i don't know how long it'll take me to finish any of them...

How much is mega collection plus? I got it on GC on ebay a year ago for $15 (NTSC) [EDIT: just checked, actually it was my firiend who got it and it was $15 US not including postage! So prob more like $30. still, it better be cheap]

Also, why no DS chart yet? Oh hang on, there are only like 8 games so far! Still, I'd like to see how much the other DS games sold.

Poor form about the Playboy game sellling though. Talk about buying a game based on the name (EGM game it 46%), and it's an outdated misogynist name at that.

True. Next thing you know they'll make a game where you play a serial killer and murder people in the most violent way you can etc. Or a game where you play a violent drug dealer who's in and out of jail in between using and killing people.

oh.................

the sims games don't interest me in the slightest... so i've never really looked at Playboy since then (well, the game anyways icon_razz.gif icon_wink.gif)

i quite like the stories of the GTA games, plus i think they are RPGs in the truest sense of the word... they do allow you to take a role you would otherwise never take (well, i'd never take)... honestly i don't see why you bag the series so, it's fun, if your going to use the violence/adult game angle, it's not supposed to be played by minors and personally i think its a good thing in terms of the future of gaming since games like this are pushing the envelope and (should be) shaping legislation that would allow for a more adult market for games... probably much like violent and adult themed (not adult as in porn, adult stories) movies would have done 50 odd years ago...

as much as i like cartoons and childrens films, i'm glad i can choose to watch Trainspotting, Requiem for a Dream or Reservoir Dogs too...

</rant>

i haven't played manhunt though, so maybe that warrants the criticism (i've heard it does)... violence for violence-sake... though i must admit i was intrigued by the story... it's something i can see being a movie premise...

i paid $45 for Sonic... rrp $50 plus staff discount... i think it's a bit early to determine whether it was worth it too... IMO the gamegear games are a worthless addition, when the same game is available as the MD port... i'm having fun with Sonic 1 (and i assume i will with the other platformers) but Sonic 3D is poo...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
knew Halo was crap. anyway, looks like GBA sales have taken a fall since the release of the DS. Never thought Monsters Inc./Nemo would take #1 spot. And what kinda crap game is Lizzie Mcguire?!?!?!

I was only joking about GTA. It was more a comment on where we are right now and what we accept without question.

I like GTA3. I don't think the sequels deserved as much praise as they got since they really were glorified expansion packs at full price (and on WAY out of date technology), but they're still good games.

My problem is that I know far more kids that play them then adults. And their parents have no idea what the games are about. If 60% of 'the sopranos' audience was under 14, there'd be parent groups rioting in the streets. But Sony somehow gets away with it.

Oh, and the gamegear sonic games aren't ports. they're entireley different games. Although they are the same as the master system versions, just with differently sized sprites.

It would be better if Sega released Sonic mega collection (including the GG games) on GBA (or DS). It could handle it fine, and all the games put together are about 20 Megs!!! (based on the ROM sizes).

Bit biased there eh Mangaman? But yeah, halo didn't seem to have much in the way of legs....

it's not just Sony... ok GTA is mostly a Sony game, at least with the headstart on other platforms, but realistically all consoles have their games that aren't really designed with kids in mind...

look at the biggest GC launch of the year: Resident Evil 4...

yeah Port was the wrong word, but if you look at when i wrote it, you'll see why... i guess i'm not a Sonic fanboy (not an implication on your sonic heritage, just a statement) that has to have every sonic game ever... agreed that a GBA or DS port is warranted...

i would really like a multi-platform Super Mario Allstars update, maybe with the SM World and Lands added... don't like my chances though...

Multi platform? ummm, you mean GCN and DS? It's not coming to anything else!

BTW, I Have Sonic 1 and 2 on my actual gamegear, and they were and are great on that. On TV you're better off with the master system versions (which have smaller sprites but a little more detail).

no, i meant i wish it would also come to PS and XB... like i said, i don't like my chances... at the moment i don't have the physical space for another console, be it GC or XB... or the money for that matter...

i didn't actually know that SM Allstars 2 (what i'm calling it, since i don't know what it's actually called) was being made at all, it was just a wish once i got the Sonic collection...

Sonics were for MegaDrive btw... weren't they (thats what the collection is telling me at any rate... plus it looks better than what i thought the MS was capable of)

i haven't had a great deal of playtime on the GG versions, but yeah the TV doesn't really do it justice... i'm sure when it's on the GG it's great... meh, maybe i'll play them when (if) i finish the rest of the games...
