PALGN Weekly Releases - 29/08/11

PALGN Feature | Japan pays a visit.
Getting back into the swing of things, this week bridging August into September finally has some games worth mentioning, including the first major Wii release in months.

Sports fiends have both Madden NFL 12 and Champion Jockey to look forward to, both offering adequet representations for their associated sports on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation. Champion Jockey also makes an apperance on the Nintendo Wii, if you'd prefer to literally whip the horse across the finish line.

Driver makes its long awaited return in Driver: San Francisco, a sandbox-esque racer for speed fiends. Taking place entirely within the lead character's coma dream, Driver: San Francisco introduces the 'Shift' mechanic. Driving with skill and speed will increase the Shift meter, which then allows players to jump in shift into control of a new vehicle, all the while the mission continues. Releasing on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this Thursday, make sure to check out PALGN's very own Driver: San Francisco preview here.

Next up we have Bodycount, the spiritual successor to BLACK. Retaining the same cinematic driven chaotic shooting that made BLACK successful, Bodycount promises more carnage and destruction than you can shake a gun barrel at. As expected, this title will be available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Making sure they're not left out, PC gamers can look forward to the first retail release of Super Meat Boy, the critically acclaimed 2D platformer originally digitally distributed. Aimed at collectors and hardcore Super Meat Boy fans and available in two flavours, this re-release includes a copy of the game's soundtrack, behind the scenes videos, a Super Meat Boy comic, t-shirt and more.

At the start of this report we mentioned there was a major Wii game, and this is where we shine our final August spotlight. After months of nothing, Wii gamers finally have something significant worth playing, even if its at the cost of your social life.

The demo of Bodycount sucked nuts. Felt like a 5 year old game. And an average one at that.

And not owning a Wii (nor wishing to buy one to play the game in SD), I'm sad to miss out on Xenoblade because it looks and sounds great!

I'm fairly pumped for Xenoblade. I didn't see this one coming until about a week ago. I thought there wouldn't be anymore good JRPGs coming out in this generation.

Tales of Xillia is out in Japan in a couple of weeks. If we're lucky it will get an English localisation.
