Aside from their financial gain, Activision also revealed their future plans for the company’s fiscal 2006 – so between April 2005 to March 2006 – which will see sequels to both Call of Duty and Tony Hawk franchisers.
Robert Kotick, Chairman and CEO of Activision, Inc., commented, “In fiscal 2006, we will release the strongest game slate in our history which includes new versions of our top-selling fiscal 2005 franchises -- Tony Hawk, Spider-Man, Shrek, Call of Duty, DOOM, and X-Men, as well as games based on True Crime, Fantastic Four, Madagascar, Quake, The Movies, and an original new property from Neversoft, the development team behind the Tony Hawk series.".
More specifically, Activision President Ron Doornink, added the following for the Call of Duty titles planned: "We're pleased to announce that in fiscal 2006 we will launch two new Call of Duty products: one for PC and one for consoles," he said shamelessly repeating what we've just told you. He also went on to add, "Call of Duty has the potential to become our largest and most profitable franchise".
No details were given to as where these games would be placed in the timeline of the franchise, nor which consoles the home-console game will be on, or whether or not Finest Hour developer, Spark Unlimited, would be in the development seat again. However, last May developer Infinity War did post job listings for "seasoned next-generation console engineers", which is a strong indication that the team will once again develop the Call of Duty games, as opposed to Spark Unlimited who developed Finest Hour.
In slightly more disappointing news, Activision confirmed today that gamers won’t expect to see the critically acclaimed Doom 3 title on the Xbox until later this year. The revelation came during the company's year-end financial report. Both the PC expansion pack for the PC version and the Xbox version will now be released later this year.
