Resident Evil 6 to be revealed at Tokyo Game Show 2011

PALGN News | No longer vacant.
One of E3 2011's suprise no-shows looks to be finally revealed in the coming months, if Xbox 360 Achievements is to be believed. The next entry in one of Capcom's flagship franchises, that game is none other than Resident Evil 6.

The word comes out of the ongoing Comic-Con event, where Resident Evil 6 was teased with a simple image, showing the classic Resident Evil logo along with the date of 15 September 2011. This date falls right in line with the annual Tokyo Game Show event, where numerous Japanese publishers are expected to announce titles.

Capcom has kept a tight ship on rumours relating to Resident Evil 6, shifting Resident Evil discussion to their next franchise titles; Resident Evil: Revelations for the Nintendo 3DS, and Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Nobody knows where in the canon timeline Resident Evil 6 will be set, nor the story premise, though one popular rumour is that the new game will feature overhauled gameplay mechanics that differ it from the classic Resident Evil formula as well as the more recent style pioneered with Resident Evil 4.

Unfortunately this rumour is all we have to go off, and until the Tokyo Game Show we'll just have to continue speculating on what Capcom has in store for Resident Evil 6.

It would be sweet if it went back to classic formula... The easter egg in the RE4 DLC that went back to the classic controls and camera was amazing

in b4 capcom manage to fuck this up too.

hopefully they manage to change something from RE 4 this time though. Playing RE 5 was just kind of depressing.

RE5 was rubbish.

I enjoyed RE5 quite a bit, a bit like a co-op RE4. Wonder who the characters are going to be this time around? I wouldn't mind seeing Leon and Claire team up again.

a bit? It was the exact same damn game.

Co-op was a fad when RE5 came out. Thankfully it's faded away. RE games should be single player alone.

Haha. Pretty much. I love RE4, so I didn't really care that it was more of the same especially when I could play through it with friends. I guess I was happy to have more of the same, whereas a lot of people wanted to see more innovation and were disappointed. It's not as good as RE4 in terms of story and it lacked atmosphere (RE5 was pretty much just all action), but I think it's pretty far from being a crapfest.

See I don't mind the co-op infact I usually like it. It was the fact that it was fucking identical to RE 4 that bugged me, oh look hear I am locked in a room having to defend it from hordes of zombies by pushing shit infront of the doors, oh look I'm being chased by guys with chainsaws who insta kill me, oh look i'm playing RE 4 again

I wouldn't say it's a crapfest, to someone who hadn't played RE 4 before it would have been cool, but I had and if I wanted to replay it I'd just replay it. It felt cheap and lazy on capcoms part.

I totally hear what you're saying. If I'd played through RE4 a couple more times, I probably would've felt the same way. I can understand why Capcom would've shied away from changing the mechanics too much, given the success of RE4. Adding co-op really isn't enough of a change to appease people who expected something more from a flagship franchise of a top developer.

TGS is in September, so not too long to find out whether it'll be more of the same or something completely different.

RE5 was half the game RE4 was.

i was initially very dissapointed with re5, for all the reasons mentioned in the comments above. but after playing it alot i began to get addicted to it, that is when i was playing co op. i think the designers meant to 'blank' you off every time sheva got in the way of your shots. and where was the spooky and misty nighttime gameplay???? i did think wesker kicked major butt as an awesome bad guy though. and yes benza i hope re6 will be good but wtf are capcom thinking these days?! so i dont have high hopes.

In game co-op is one of my favourite game modes of all time. I would be very sad if it permanently died off. However for a horror game I understand that co-op is quite a bad move for the single player.

It would of been epic if it was optional, and if you chose co-op there could be a slightly different ways of completing missions, different dialogue, new areas and rooms. Hidden easter eggs...

why do all the wrong people work with major videogame franchises these days icon_sad.gif

Here's hoping they keep to their word and either take the game 'back to its roots' or in a 'completely different direction'. I'm pretty sure they've said that in interviews. Along with a poker game to decide who directs/produces it.

For me, all Resident Evil 5 did was convince me Capcom cant hold the franchise up to the usual standard when Shinji Mikami and Hideki Kamiya are absent.

I'll wait for RE 6: Gold Edition thanks.

I'll wait for the version that doesn't have "Michael Bay Presents:" at the front of it.

This looks like blood... Chris's blood!

better not be chris' blood. im over what capcom is allowing to happen with res evil characters. what with the new game coming out where u apparently kill leon. why dont they just make a game where u can kill ghandi and replace him with a corrupt polititian who molests little children instead? or i dont know, change dante from devil may cry into a sickly skinny dark haired emo looking character as well while thier at it. oh..........whats that..they already have? capcom u used to know what u were doing

If they made RE5 live the first teaser trailer it would have been better. Make the zombies like 28 Days Later/Dawn of the dead. None of this run at you then stop 2 meters before bullshit!
