First up, Wii owners are uncharacteristically set for an epic third-party release, with Conduit 2 launching onto shelves from Thursday. The first-person shooter is said to improve on all the niggling issues of the first game, and is available as a special edition including an art book, in-game content and premium figurine. Continuing the lead-pumping tradition, Codemasters’ Operation Flashpoint: Red River is being released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, also on Thursday. Set in Tajikistan, players are charged with leading a four man squad to quell a guerrilla uprising. While streamlined somewhat, the latest Operation Flashpoint still requires plenty of forethought and strategy, so only thinking gamers need apply.
The final shooter for all the dudes with a thirst for pulling the trigger first and asking questions later is Sony’s SOCOM: Special Forces, exclusively on PlayStation 3. Original developer Zipper has taken the reins for the latest title, which sees players commanding their team in hostile territory. SOCOM: Special Forces features cover gameplay, tactical options for directing your squad, and support for 3D and the PlayStation Move. Look out for PALGN’s review of SOCOM soon, and be sure to enter our competition to win a SOCOM prize pack.
The next game will also see players shooting, but of a different kind. You can land goal after goal in AFL LIVE on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the first Aussie Rules game to be released in a number of years, and also on the current generation of consoles. The Wii version is scheduled for release in May.
Now, without further ado, prepare yourself for a mind bending adventure in which the next dimension is but a doorway away.
