IGDA Global Game Jam Melbourne winners announced

PALGN News | The jam tastes like win.
This weekend, the IGDA Global Game Jam was held around the world, across 44 countries, 170 locations and involving 6500 participants. The goal of the Game Jam was to push game designers, developers and artists to come up with innovative ideas and produce their own games within a 48 hour timeframe. The immense pressure ensures that the cream of the crop rises to the top, and as such the awards for the Melbourne event have been announced. There were 72 registered entrants in the Melbourne event, and 18 games were produced.

One of the members of the team 'Broficiency' behind the Best Game, Ultra Happy Death Virus HD was one of our very own forum members, Bronze. About their success, he had to say "Our team was honoured to have been awarded Participants' Choice and Best Game awards at IGDAM Game Jam 2011. The quality of the titles produced at the jam was amazing, and to have Ultra Happy Death Virus HD recognised was genuinely unexpected.

Team Broficiency was comprised of a game design student, two dedicated (sleep-deprived) coders, and a talented artist/composer. We were mostly strangers at the start of the jam, and by the end we had become good friends. We're really proud of what we were able to achieve in such a short amount of time, and are looking forward to working together again!"

You can download Ultra Happy Death Virus HD from the Global Game Jam website here.

All of the other entries can be accessed by following this link, and clicking on 'Australia - Melbourne - IGDAM @ La Trobe' then clicking 'Apply'.

Congrats Bronze. The game's pretty cool. I didn't quite get what I was meant to do on my first go, but got through a few levels on the second try. Very impressive that people can get stuff like that done in under 48 hrs.
