Some positive news, with regards to Mr. Brendan O'Connor, Federal Home Affairs Minister - I’m in the process of confirming a meeting with him. As you can imagine, I welcome the opportunity and appreciate him taking the time to discuss this issue on the 7 May.
The following, however, is an update on what we know about each incumbent / shadow Attorney-General and their attitude towards a change in classification:
1) Mr. Rob Hulls, VIC Attorney-General -
“At the moment, Australia is out of step with the rest of the developed world on this – R18+ classification for computer games.” Rub Hulls, Deputy Premier and Attorney-General. (The Premier of Victoria website – 28th March, 2008).
After speaking with Rob Hull’s policy advisor, the response was – “no official response but supports the release of the discussion paper and will not pre-empt the results.”
2) Mr. Cameron Dick, QLD Attorney-General -
Queensland Attorney-General Cameron Dick said he believed the issue should be resolved to give certainty to the industry. “We are currently finalising our position in relation to the issues,” he said.
We look forward to speaking to some more AGs as the SCAG meeting approaches… And we’ll have another update for you very soon.
Best,
Roland
