Bungie plans to take a break from Halo

PALGN News | Bungie ready to tackle new projects.
With the completion of Halo 2, Bungie studios have decided to depart from Master Chief for a little while and have possible plans to start new projects.

Bungie studio manager Pete Parsons said that once Halo 2 was out the door, the developer intends to do "something different". "We will do something else and we have a few ideas," Parsons said.

Of course this does not mean the Halo franchise will end, and while there was no mention of Halo 3, with Parsons commenting that "We have several hundred years of Halo fiction laid out," which no doubt indicates that the struggle of mankind against the Covenant is definitely far from over.

Boohoo, what ever will we do without another Halo game. icon_rolleyes.gif

I'm waiting for the "Bungie fire entire Halo team" article. icon_razz.gif

Agreed.

I'm not all for the firing though. It would be a waste of talent. It's good to see something other than Halo. It had started before the Xbox had launched and hasn't stopped - Halo, Halo, Halo. Hype cannot and ought not stop a developer from spreading their wings.

Good, I'm glad Halo isn't the only thing they'll make. They have made other games before Halo right...?

Still, if there was a Halo 3 or something I'd be quite happy to buy it. I've heard there are Halo novels, true or false? If true, what are they about?

yeah there are 2 or 3 in bookstores over here, i don't know what they're about, but they are fighting an uphill battle, even if they are good, to win over people like me who have read some PC Game novels...

some links:
Halo: The Fall of Reach
Halo: The Flood
Halo: First Strike
i think these are in order from a quick review of the reviews... TFOR is a prequel tale, TF is an explanatory text about the universe in novel form, and FS follows on immediately after the first game...

change is good IMO, as much as Bungie probably love Halo, i'm sure they wouldn't want to get pigeonholed... who knows, maybe they are a one trick company and their next project will fail? some how i doubt it, Halo was (is) good for all the right reasons, and those reasons equally apply to any game...

any guesses what type of game the next project will be?
i'm guessing an RPG, Bungie seem good at storytelling and revealing so an RPG seems logical to me...

and yeah, Bungie have made other games before Halo...

I hope they go to another genre alltogether... I'd really like to see what they can do other than a FPS

About time! I'm sorry, but after spending extensive time with both versions, I don't see what everyone's on about. There's nothing here that hasn't been done before and even Bungie admitted Halo's levels got repetitive (something I couldn't argue against Call of Duty, for instance). Someone speculated that maybe its because it introduced a new culture to the FPS genre - new blood to play the game, but it's probably not that simple.

Either way, I'm glad if they go for a new game, though quietly I'm hoping for an Oni sequel...
