Rock Band 3 announced

PALGN News | A music revolution?
Viacom President and CEO Philippe Dauman has officially announced that Rock Band 3 will be released this holiday season, despite the fact that Rock Band 2 has never officially been released in Australia. Mr Dauman revealed the game while speaking at the Credit Suisse Group Global Media and Communications Conference.

On the game’s Facebook page, the latest update reads: “Harmonix is developing Rock Band 3 for worldwide release this holiday season! The game, which will be published by MTV Games and distributed by Electronic Arts, will innovate and revolutionize the music genre once again, just as Harmonix did with the original Rock Band, Rock Band 2 and The Beatles: Rock Band. Stay tuned for more details!"

It will be interesting to see what Harmonix has planned to evolve the ailing music genre. There has been some speculation that the next iteration will feature more realistic instruments. However, according to a report in VGChartz, another game has beaten them to the punch, with Power Gig: Rise of the Sixstring shipping with a ¾ sized, six stringed guitar. We will keep you updated as more information comes to hand.

All I'd want are cymbal pads, 4 toms doesn't equate to a good drum feel.
It's better to have a simpler kit with multi-purpose pads, because it allows more accuracy in the charts- when you look at Guitar Hero, they've limited themselves to 3 actual drum pads, which plays havoc when there's a basic snare/3 tom roll (which happens a fair bit)

(You can actually get cymbals for your Beatles kit so you can do the freestyle fills with cymbals if you want, btw)

Ok (checked out the IGN video review thingie), that's freaking awesome. See, if they made that thing the Rock Band drum kit and actually made use of all the pads in carreer mode i would buy it in a second.

having toms used for everything (including multiple types of cymbals) is more accurate? playing on the gh drums is much closer to playing on a real kit (when they actually work properly, that is). plus using an e-kit while playing rock band makes the drumming feel even more messy.

But using the Ion drums is awesome, and just about the same as real drumming. I just hit the cymbals when the drummer does, and pads when he does, it's normally pretty easy to tell.

There you go, seeing as the guy has a Sydonia avatar, anything he says about drumming is gospel.

Though I still like the idea of the RB extension kit, although I also feel that the base structure of it wouldn't really allow for any strenuous work on them as if you are putting everything on a bar, you need a wrap bar for support. Kinda getting beyond the realms of video games now though.

I think I'm just way too picky.

You could get 1-2 years of gameplay on a Rock Band drum set, as long as you don't get a dodgy set. I got about a 6-12 months from mine, about half the time expert, before I sold them.

Oh, they're sturdy, but I find when I bash both RB and GH the kit tends to sway a little. Pretty minor though and didn't really affect my enjoyment.

All Rock Band 3 needs to do is follow up on next week's Rock Band DLC and release some more Lady Gaga (and more Cartman, for that matter).

That'll make me take a ride on Harmonix's disco stick.

Although logic says that it should come out, i mean they gave RB: Beatles and Lego: Rock Band a local release granted they were reduced to be cleared soon after (over the last 3 months the Beatles band kits were severely reduced from their $350 - $399 price point to $99 - $150 at some stores, and Lego Rock Band has been sold for $30 - $49 over the last month and a bit).
Egad, $99? Where was that? And when?

That sounds about right icon_smile.gif, Big W, Dick Smith, JB Hifi and other stores dropped the prices across the board.

The game on it's own is also cheap (although not as cheap as RB1, AC/DC, Lego RB etc), have seen it between $60 - $79. I know the $79 price isn't exactly cheap, it's not bad considering most stores would normally have it at the proper RRP months after it has been out.

I imported Rock Band 2 from New Zealand the other month. It has Australia ratings markings on it. Lulz.

I'm fairly close to dismantling my falling-apart RB1 drumkit and making a full sized kit that I don't feel like a human in a hobbithole playing. All I need from the kit is the vibration sensors and the circuitry in the middle, anything else is secondary. Of course, if I do that I may as well have just bought a real drum kit in the first place.
