Fallout: New Vegas in Spring

PALGN News | Duck and cover.
In a media release issued today, Bethesda Softworks has today announced that the next game in the revered Fallout series, Fallout: New Vegas, will be released in the Northern hemisphere Autumn, or in Australia in Spring (so sometime in the September to November period).

According to the website, the new Fallout game will let players “Experience all the sights and sounds of fabulous New Vegas, brought to you by Vault-Tec, America's First Choice in Post Nuclear Simulation. Explore the treacherous wastes of the Great Southwest from the safety and comfort of your very own vault: Meet new people, confront terrifying creatures, and arm yourself with the latest high-tech weaponry as you make a name for yourself on a thrilling new journey across the Mojave wasteland. A word of warning, however - while Vault-Tec engineers have prepared for every contingency, in Vegas, fortunes can change in an instant. Enjoy your stay.”

The company has also released the first teaser trailer for the game below. We'll have more for you in the coming months prior to its release.

Knowing of course that when Americans say Fall it's actually Spring here. Not Autumn. Seasons are six months out and all that.

Ah, I thought they had localised the media release (which they sometimes do), but it looks like they haven't. It has been adjusted now.

I'm a bit iffy on it. Fallout is one of my favourite games but I can't see Obsidian being as good a job as Bethesda on it. Also if it's just a new location with little done to the core game I won't be buying it.

Keep in mind that Obsidian are quite a few of the guys who made the original Fallout & Fallout 2... personally, I think they will do a better job than Bethesda as far as story/atmosphere goes.

It is also built off the same engine, should be pretty much like Fallout 3.

That's what they said about KOTOR 2...

There's a lot more behind a great RPG than the engine, so that alone isn't any reason to have faith. But as others said, Obsidian have a somewhat proven track record.

..would it be too much to incorporate some kind of multi icon_sad.gif Hopefully we'll see some of the charm that was in fallout 1,2,tactics that was so clearly lacking in the cold shell that is fallout 3 ..

What an inefficient robot.

@Spanca

KOTOR 2 would probably have been better than the original had they had time to release. It's failure was more the fault of greedy publishers than poor development.

Is that also true of Neverwinter Nights 2, one of the buggiest games that I have ever had the misfortune to play (keep in mind: 6 years in games QA...)?

Obsidian seem to have the talent to create great titles, but not the talent to work within their means. I really hope that they pull it together this time, as this is a sequel I don't want to see half-done.

Especially after the delay of Alpha Protocol I'm worried that Obsidian just can't bring it all together. Although I am definitely interested in Fallout Vegas.

Day 1 purchase for sure. Fallout 3 is one of my favourite games of all time, and I still play it to this day. Being evil is just so much fun.

Anyone else expecting Fallout 3 + Bioshock here?

Seeing as there are lights , power and a working city in a post apocalyptic world makes me think that its going to be full of crazies.

Dam this could be fun! ( Also was that a red star on the flag? Information Republic? )
