New Sega console coming soon!

PALGN News | Okay, so 'new' is probably not the right word...
In an unusual mixture of old and new gaming coming together, Sega has announced that they will be releasing a budget-priced console which will offer 'retro' Sega titles complete with the wonders of motion control.

According to Pocket Lint, the console, to be called 'Sega Zone' (hopefully they will incorporate the song Danger Zone into their advertising) will come with "20 classic Sega titles, like Alex Kid, Golden Axe, Sonic and Knuckles and Ecco the Dolphin as well as a further 30 games, 16 of which are motion controlled".

The console will ship with two wireless remote controls, and will include motion controlled games like table tennis and golf. Sounds a bit familiar. However, gamers will not be able to load in any other games into the system, unlike the re-launched Sega Mega Drive, although there are plans to offer more Sega titles for the Sega Zone in the future.

The new/old console is due for release in the UK Summer (Australian Winter) and is priced at around £50 (probably double that in Australian dollars).

Really the Horse is dead? Lets beat it!!!

How many times have they released these titles again? May as well chuck the dreamcast back into production or at least make the dreamcast titles available on the online market place for all console gamers to enjoy..

Pretty sure I could just play the Sega Megadrive collection on PSP while flailing my arms for 1/10th of the price.

Spewing. I was hoping this had something to do with a Dreamcast machine. Who wants a locked console that can only play a limited amount of games? I can't imagine how well motion control would translation to a Sonic game.

Pffft, I say..

Re-release the Dreamcast already Sega..

I wouldnt say no to a Dreamcast that allows you to download additional content.

Would of been good for like $30-40 not $100... :/

Ditto - I nearly did a spit-take upon reading the topic, and I'm not even drinking anything.

Oh...yay

Sigh, this sounds like a trumped up emultor with waggle. Why innovate when you can just copy and paste the same old crap?

Sega said that they would stop making consoles after the Dreamcast.

relaunched mega drive?

really? when? how much?

I saw mega drives in Malaysia - looked to be new - about $50 Au - came with a whole heap of games and looked a bit pirated like one of those 50 in 1 carts.

but thats probably what it was if its relaunched.

This sounds positively fail-tastic.
The mention of motion controls immediately put me off this. I know I harp on about it, but motion controls are just not that good. They're awful in fact. Yes, there are isolated games where the motion does enhance the experience, but sadly these games are few and far between.

Not to mention that in the glory SEGA days, I was a Nintendo fan hence these games have no nostalgic novelty for me whatsoever.

DAMN IT!!! It took me three weeks to get the annoying "danger zone" song out of my head, and after reading that IT'S HAUNTING ME AGAIN!!! icon_sad.gif

aaaanyway, i think the concept is cool but actually producing it will not be

If the concept is cool, why not just release it all on the Wii?!

You can't fail if you don't try. Note this, Sega.

They should do some basic market Research :/

No, just No!!!!!

I nearly wet my pants when I saw this article. I always wish Sega would return to the console market, but not like this.

I have a Mega Drive (my fav Sega console) so was kinda interested, but the thought of motion controls makes me shudder. These games are classic's, why throw gimicky motion controls onto them.

Damn it Sega !!!!.....Why can't you make a new HD console or something better than this.

As mentioned above, the idea of re-releasing the Dreamcast sounds good. Dreamcast is the only Sega console I havn't played (I had alot of hate for it, cause it made Sega pull out of the Console market). However, it does have some games I would like to see re-released.

I don't understand why anyone would want Sega to return to the console market. What's the point, it's pretty much all covered as it is. Do you think that Sega could really bring that much more to the party?

Sure I like Sega, Mega Drive was my first console, loved it. I can play whatever Sega I want on my XBox and PS3. There's seriously no point in bringing out another console.

As for motion controls, they're not my thing, I bought a Wii for Zelda, Metroid and Smash Bros. Haven't played it in so long, waste of money.

Yuh, fair points there. I guess I always feel dissapointed that they pulled out of making consoles as I grew up on Sega and have such found memories.

And the other thing is, they don't really make enough games to justify having a current gen system.

But a small part of me will always want to see a new Sega Console, but as you said Benno, there isn't much point bringing another console out and 4 current gen consoles would be crazy.

I made a fair point?

HOT DAWG!

Yeah, I was all confused when they pulled out, I wanted a Dreamcast but never got one.

I made a fair point icon_smile.gif
