Australian Sales Charts, week ending 24/01/10

PALGN News | Everything is just diddly-dandy.
At number one, the stupendous Wii Fit has reclaimed the title as Australia’s biggest selling game. “Hoorah,” the children cried with glee as the game turned them into society’s definition of normal, cleared their acne and gave them all puppies. At number two is everyone’s favourite non-practising plumber, Mario, in everyone’s favourite Mario-based kart-related game, Mario Kart.Yah! Oh look out now and sound the trumpets, for at number three is Wii Play, up a spot on last week. And good golly miss molly, look over there. Over there in the clouds. See it? It’s New Super Mario Bros in the number four spot, and gosh dang it if it isn’t just sprinkling sunshine on the whole wide world! But try and not explode with excitement just yet, because at number five is Wii Sports Resort. Hark now here the angels sing!

At number six and moving up a spot is the PlayStation 3 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Isn’t war just dandy? At number 7 and putting in an amazing effort is Just Dance which we’re sure offers gamers a wondrous experience, and all those bad reviews are probably written by jealous smelly-heads. At number 8 is Cricket on the Wii, the game that the invisible pixies in your room play while you’re asleep. At number nine is the Xbox 360 version of Modern Warfare 2. It’s rumoured that the next game in the series will have a mode that lets you hug your enemies and converse intelligently with them about your differences instead of shooting them. Rounding up the top 10 is Darksiders, a happy, happy, joy, joy tale about the end of the world with a delightfully effervescent young chap by the name of War who rides a unicorn named Ruin. They have such fun together!

But why are there even rankings? There really are no losers in the gaming world. Every gamer and every game is a winner. So enjoy your week in virtual goodness and remember, it’s nice to be important, but it’s important to be nice. Until next week darlings.

The charts are updated weekly and are provided by GfK.

You'd think with all of those copies of Wii Fit in people's homes we'd see more fitter people.

Naaaahhhhhh.

LOL.

The people I know that only play games on Wii don't really seem to be the active bunch.
Mind you, I know some people will play the bowling game for 15 minutes and collapse exhausted and claim that was a good workout.

I can't wait for COD MW 3 you make it sound so delightful Jason. Except the enemy should be sexy dames and there will be no conversing....not even after the fact. Just sleep.

I too am tiring of writing the same crap every week about the charts, looks like Jason's cracked before me though.

Cannot wait for next weeks installment, just riveting to see if Wii Play will outsell Mario Kart.

Is there any way we as consumers can encourage GfK to release sales numbers rather than just rankings?

Bowie - I have no idea, you could write to them via the address on their website. I don't think it's the sort of data they'd release easily or for free though.

i'd suspect the REAL reason Wii Fit continues to sell stupidly well is that for govt. employees, it counts as something you can be reimburesed for as part of your yearly 'health allowance'

That MUST be it.

Nothing to do with enjoyment, positive word of mouth and good marketing.
