Rumour: New Call of Duty title set in Vietnam?

PALGN Rumour | Wake up screaming like I'm back over there.
The dust has barely settled on the battlefields of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and rumours are already circulating about the next game in the franchise.

As fans will know, the games are now made in a cycle, with one being made by developer Infinity Ward (Call of Duty 2, the Modern Warfare series) and the next being made by developer Treyarch (Call of Duty 3, World at War). In the current generation of consoles, Treyarch’s efforts have continued to focus on recreating historically accurate war scenarios, whereas Infinity Ward has taken the series into the fictional realm with the Modern Warfare games. Well, it’s Treyarch’s turn at the helm again, and the hot rumour is that this one will take place in Vietnam.

While nothing official has yet been released about the game other than it will be released sometime in 2010, some corners of the internet are speculating that the yet-to-be-named 7th instalment in the series could take place in jungles of 'Nam. According to Computer and Videogames , the game may focus on “the struggles of each individual platoon member. And pacing of the game is rumoured to follow movies such as Saving Private Ryan, Platoon, Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket.”

While it’s still too early to know for sure, it does seem like a pretty solid rumour as Vietnam was a brutal and controversial war that has been captured successfully in film and television many times, giving the developers a solid base to work from. However, are we starting to tire of the Call of Duty series with the current release schedule of a new game every year with three games already out for the current generation of consoles? Or will we continue to love them as long as they maintain the quality?

A game based on the vietnam war... so you play the vietnamese and kill Americans (good luck trying to sell that in the US) or the game is pointless because you know no matter what you do you still lose.

Pass.

(though COD games are too slow for me so I'd have passed on it anyway)

How about a game where they Treyarch developers storm the Infinity Ward building and have a massive armed seige conflict with the winner getting all the IP rights to COD! - with veitnam music and Chuck Norris of corse.

Im all for this. i love treyarchs games, waw, cod3, and if im not mistaken, QoS. Next, theres VERY few EXCELLENT vietnam games, 2 veitcong, plus an add on, average for their time and hardly hold up over time (i tried 2 weeks ago to install vietcong, and couldnt get it to work on win7). shellshock 1+2, both rc'ed and then edited to ma15+. both are ok, but very simple paced fps shooters. I think a cinemtic experience delivered by the likes of treyarch (whom offered imo the best pacific ww2 game) would really be welcomed by vietnam affeciados like myself.

So no solid, cohesive narrative?
I was making a joke because Modern Warfare 2 lacks any kind of solid, cohesive narrative.
Touché, sir.
