Batman: Arkham Asylum sequel announced

PALGN News | The Dark Knight faces another long night.
In what comes as a shockingly early confirmation of what many already expected, a sequel to the critically and commercially adored Batman: Arkham Asylum has been announced.

The teaser website, located at www.arkhamhasmoved.com has very little to offer aside from a teaser trailer and the cryptic image of 'Uncle Sam'.

The trailer, meanwhile, seems to suggest that the inafmous Arkham Asylum has been transplanted to mainland Gotham City, the insinuation being, of course, that Batman will now have to contend with the decaying urban maze of Gotham in lieu of the surrounds of Arkham Island. Few details, other than the confirmed returns of villains Joker and Harley Quinn, are available at present. If we were to hazard a guess, however, we would not be surprised to see Harvey Dent, alias Two Face, make an appearance, given the use of the ravaged, patriotic 'Uncle Sam' iconography.

The sequel, to be developed by Rocksteady Studios, is likely to make its way to Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC. Stay tuned to PALGN for more details on the sequel to what we thought was easily one of the greatest comic book adaptations ever developed and one of the best games of 2009.

the video also includes a shot of The Iceberg Lounge - the club owned by The Penguin, and a sign that says "Lionis", which is Black Mask's real name.

more hints, or just Gotham Landmarks?

Hmmm, Black Mask is Roman Sionis and Penguin does own Iceberg Lounge. Interesting. I love speculating - I'll bet that Catwoman pops up for a little jaunt, too.

No surprise, I loved this game. That said, I wonder how they'll make it a bit different so it's just not Batman AA1 in a different setting? Unless they intend going back to Arkham Asylum?

take a good look at the uncle sam poster at http://www.arkhamhasmoved.com/us/ notice how the hand holding the gun is all burnt, and so is the barely visible chin. Hmmm...

^ You're right, and what's more, one side of the uniform is clearly burnt to bits.

Harvey is coming, no doubt about it.

Having not played any of the big AAA titles to be released from July onwards i have to say this game Arkham Asykum excites me most. Everything i have heard about this game leads me to believe it is greatness. Being able to control the Batman properly for once.

The first game was such a surprise hit for me, I can not wait for the second.

Fantastic news, good to see a follow up to one of the best titles and biggest surprise hits of the generation.

Makes me wonder whether they had this planned in the first place (hence why the ending to the game was so abrupt).

This is fantastic news though, it's my favourite game of the year by far so to be able to continue it on, and hear more of Mark Hamill's Joker too, has me excited.

Two Face will be in there for sure. It makes sense. I'm more interested to see what they do with the side quests, whether they bring Riddler back in some form (maybe even expanded) or introduce some other form of collectable/puzzle solving.

And if Gotham City itself is the landmark for which we get to explore, the Batmobile, Alfred and possibly Robin will need to be there in some capacity. It'd be awesome to drive around the city from one place to the next.

I'd really prefer not to see Robin or any sidekicky character, Batman works alone dammit!

I agree with Gutsman. I prefer when Batman works solo. Then again, I never expected Rocksteady to blow me away with their amazing storytelling and portrayal of the Batman mythos. If they can add their awesome spin as to how they include Robin and or Alfred, then they have my blessing.

Robin has been used well on some occasions - check out Dark Victory for a good example.

A mature Robin or Nightwing is something I'm yet to see in any Batman game. If anyone were to try it, these guys would get it right.
