Australian sales charts, week ending 15/11/09

PALGN News | Can New Super Mario Bros. Wii upset Modern Warfare 2?
No, obviously. The top two games in Australia this week are both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which will come as a shock to absolutely nobody with even the slightest bit of interest in the industry. Bucking the trend of other recent big-name titles, the Xbox 360 version managed to come out on top of the PlayStation 3 edition. As a result, New Super Mario Bros. Wii - a sure-fire number one pretty much any other week of the year - was reduced to a rather lowly third place. Cricket fell thanks to the new entries, but still held onto fourth place. Modern Warfare 2 made a third appearance at five, this time on the platform it all started on - the PC.

Thanks to the big name new entries, Wii Fit Plus suffered, falling four spots to end the week in sixth. The Wii incarnation of Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games re-entered the charts in seventh place, just as the DS version falls out of the top ten. Strange. Driving sim Forza Motorsport 3 continued its slide down the charts, this week dropping three places to eighth. Nine is an odd one, with the position inhabited by DS title Bakugen. At ten is a familiar name we all know - Wii Play, back after a rather brief hiatus.

The charts are updated weekly and are provided by those wonderful people at GfK.

I don't think you have a chance, then you would see how little sales you actually need to get into the charts.

I'm not terribly surprised apart for #9 Bakugen, can someone fill me in? What or why is this game selling well?

It's Bakugan. It's a game based on the localised children's (even more so) version of Bakugan, the anime. The Japanese anime. From Japan. It's very popular with the kids, or so I hear. I have no idea if the game's any good, but it's an video game adaption of an artificially popular show, so I can't imagine it would be that great.
