PALGN Feature | The assassin returns.

This week, Ubisoft follows up on one of their best-selling franchises with Assassin's Creed II. Picking up where the last game left off, the interned Desmond continues reliving his ancient ancestry, this time with an assassin named Ezio living in a renaissance Italy. Assassin's Creed II packs a number of impressive new features, including factions, weapons stores and an expanded inventory. The developers have also sought to answer the criticisms of the original, with a greater range of objectives and broader gameplay. After going hands-on with the game at eGames recently, we can say that the initial results are looking very promising.

Assassin's Creed II is scheduled for release this Thursday on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with the PC version set to follow next year. Fans have three different options to choose from – the standard game, the White Edition, which includes an Ezio figure and bonus mission, or the Black Edition, which comes packed with a figurine, art book, soundtrack and three bonus missions. The two special editions will be available in limited quantities, with many stores already selling out of their allocations for the Black Edition. Two new Assassin's Creed titles will also be available on portable devices this week; Bloodlines on PSP and Discovery on Nintendo DS.

The next sequel just on the horizon is Value's Left 4 Dead 2 on Xbox 360 and PC. While sticking to the premise of the first game – four survivors escaping from hordes upon hordes of infected – the follow-up has nonetheless evolved from the original. Players can expect new characters, weapons, enemies and a range of new environments to navigate in their quest to escape the undead. After playing the demo on Xbox LIVE, we can also say that the visuals have received an upgrade. The game can be played solo, but we recommended going through with three friends watching your back. To meet the Australia's classification requirements, we will be getting an edited edition of Left 4 Dead 2. Gamers wishing to survive another zombie apocalypse can find Left 4 Dead 2 on store shelves from this Thursday.

The PlayStation 3 gets Dragon Age: Origins, while PlayStation Portable owners get an unexpected treat or two with LittleBigPlanet and Jak & Daxter: The Lost Frontier (our review of the former can be found here).

mmm.. i've got Assassins Creed 2 pre-ordered. Probably trade some game in and get AC Bloodlines aswell.
LBP psp can wait awhile.

Ive got ACII pre-ordered and pick up whenever I get the phone call.

I am going to import L4D2, I will not buy a censored product so maybe a UK copy.

Got L4D2 AUS unlocked last night. Will use the same hack as the demo tonight and tell you how it goes.

AC2 is a must get (although if this one misses the point like the last one there will be trouble)

LBP PSP is on my list but as my Xmas list grows longer my wallet is stretched a little thin so this will wait along with J&D.

There's also Sims 3: World Adventures which will keep the women occupied while I get some serious game season sessions in. (I love this time of the year)

Just finished my exams yesterday so I'll probably have to pick up Modern Warfare 2 today. I actually really liked the original Assassin's Creed to I'm going to want to get that as well.

Well, you're in the vast minority, a small group comprising of one person... Who is being trollish.

Regardless of whether or not you like the games, you have to accept that to pretty much anyone who buys games, either L4D2, AC2 or Dragon age is going to be on their 'must have' list. So to say they aren't 'worth getting' is pretty damn rich.

He was asking for a response by posting that. He could have just said 'J&D is on the top of my list!' or something along those lines, but he wanted to make a point that he thought the other games were ****. Adding 'imo' isn't a qualifier that allows you to say whatever the hell you want and have your comments be immune from criticism. He dropped the bait, I bit, sue me.

I wouldn't take it personally Synthe. Opinions are like assholes remember? One man's floor is another man's ceiling..

Personally, I've never been a fan of the Final Fantasy series, but that doesn't mean they're bad games. Not everything's for everyone.

Back on topic, I've just finished Assassin's Creed (original) and really gave up on questing for flags and Templars. I've been playing it from start to finish non stop since getting it last week and while the premise of the title was good - boy did it get repetitive after a while. If only there was a checklist built into the game to tell you what flags / Templars you already got. Maybe one day I'll return to it to get all Achievements.. maybe not (just thinking about the task makes my brain hurt!)

Also where did I say that the other games weren't worth it period? Nowhere. I said for my tastes J&D is the only game worth buying.

Also the only reason I have no interest in L4D2 is the fact that I buy all my games locally and even if I owned a 360 I would not buy L4D2 because of its drastic editing.

Not too mention that I don't have any interest in getting LBP as I RARELY buy games for my PSP and the fact that I barely used the creation in the original LBP.

If I was trolling I would have been trying to pass my opinion off as fact and would not have bothered adding the imo part.

Seriously most of the time I don't bother putting imo in a post because I assume people are smart enough to understand that whatever I post on the subject of liking/disliking a game or games is my opinion and no one elses.I put in an imo and people still can't grasp the fact that while I have no interest in most of the games, my opinion is MINE and no one elses.

I think the Halo series is the most overrated game series in history but I don't think the series suck, just that I personally don't see the MAJOR appeal of the series.I liked what I played of Halo 2 and the multiplayer looks pretty damn fun.

For future reference, saying a specific game out of a list of a few games 'is the only one worth getting' is the same as saying every other game on that list isn't. Like, imagine someone said 3 of your friends were making thier own movies: bill, bob and fred. If you turn around and say 'bob's movie is the only one worth seeing imo', you are making it pretty clear how you feel about bill and fred's movies (which, by the way, is a bitchy thing to say, as you can express your interest in something without implying the other options are unfit for human consumption).

So, can we drop this now?

EDIT: After reading your extended post, if it offended you that much that I said you were trolling, I'll retract my statement. I'm sorry, you weren't trolling, my bad. But damn man, you go on about how I went overboard and shouldn't jump down people's throats...

Yeah, but imo, that was a bitchy thing to do too. Its like poking your head in the door to the chess club just to say 'yeah, I think chess is a pissweak game' and then expecting everyone to just chalk it up as 'well, its his opinion and he's entitled to it.' I'm not sure what you think people are going to get out of a post that purely exists to slam down other games. its neither constructive nor useful and I think most people just don't really care enough to respond to that sort of negativity.

I'm sorry if you can't understand that games not being worth it IN MY OPINION means that those games aren't worth MY money.

Hell my sister thinks video games aren't worth spending so much money on but I don't jump down her throat about it.

DBZ is my favourite show of all time but I don't give a **** that my best friend thinks the show is a totall load of crap because it's HIS opinion.Actually when he tells me how much he hates DBZ I laugh because I can see where he comes from.Hell I used to think the EXACT same thing about DBZ.

I'm sorry, next time I will sugar coat my dislike and write a whole God damn thesis on why I don't like a game/s and why, and that everyone has their own opinion and blah blah blah....
so as to not hurt some cry babies feelings.
