Assassin's Creed II bargain round-up

PALGN News | UPDATE: Toys 'R' Us assassinates the competition.
We’ve donned our cloaks, concealed our hidden blades, and are now hiding amongst the crowds. That’s right, Assassin’s Creed II will be available from tomorrow on Xbox 360 and PS3, and to celebrate we’ve published another one of our popular bargain round-up articles. To start off though, we’re going to touch base and explain the different versions that are available.

Assassin’s Creed II comes in three different packages; the Black Edition, the White Edition and the Standard Edition. The Black Edition is exclusive to EB Games and retails for $149.95. It includes an Ezio figurine, three bonus missions, art book, soundtrack DVD, and a copy of the game. The White Edition has a retail price of $129.95 and comes bundled with an Ezio figurine, a bonus mission and a copy of the game. The Standard Edition retails for $109.95, and is just the game disc and a manual insert popped into a DVD case.

While it appears retailers aren’t going too crazy over Assassin’s Creed II, there are a few different offers going on at the moment. Dick Smith comes out on top by selling the standard edition for $77, while Big W and JB Hi-Fi are the best alternative options with their price tag of $78. The White Edition is also on sale at JB Hi-Fi, where you can grab it for a cool $109. In case you’re considering buying a PlayStation 3, Toys ‘R’ Us has a deal where you can grab the game for $50 when you purchase the console in the same transaction, so it might be worth looking into.

As usual there are a few trade-in deals going on at the moment as well. First up, JB Hi-Fi is offering the standard edition for FREE when you trade-in three games that are not on their exclusions list (.pdf file). Meanwhile, GAME is offering the standard edition for $39.95 when you trade-in one game that appears on their eligible titles list. Finally, EB Games is offering the Black Edition for $29.95 when you trade-in three games, though you’ll have to visit your local store to find out what titles you're allowed to trade-in to get the price.

UPDATE: Toys 'R' Us are reportedly selling the standard edition for $69.99. Looks like they've assassinated the competition with a last minute special!

Okay, everything should be correct now.

Dick Smith, Kmart and Big W have been on a roll lately. I'll most likely get it from Big W as I was probably going to do some christmas shopping there tomorrow anyway.

Wow! When you look at it, if you compare the $77 standard version even to the jb price of the white edition its roughly $30 bucks extra just for a toy lol. If you compare it to eb's price then it's a $50 toy!!! I can't say I'm all that tempted. :S

Wow, $77 for a AC2? These new titles just keep getting cheaper; it seems the days where you had to pay over $100 for a new release are gone! Look forward to picking this one up.

technically I am paying $34.95 for the white edition - I had used a $20 game (Zelda Wii picked up HN super Saturday) to preorder the white edition from GAME, then I am using a $50 game credit note (picked up on the now infamous Harry Potter trade in - $5 game from Cashies traded at JB for Harry Potter and then traded to Game for a $50 credit note) and adding the $9.95 on Cash

SWEET

So here's my question:

Will the bonus missions in the black edition ever become available by some other means? I don't really care about the figurine, art book or DVD, the extra gameplay is what I want.

Most likely, most do.
I'm going to pricematch DSE because my pre-order is at EB with my $23 left over from MW2. So $54 for me. icon_smile.gif

I still have $58 left on a BigW gift card so it's only $20 for me icon_smile.gif.

I do love JB's trade in deals, only have to decide whether to pick up ACII or Dragon Ages, I enjoyed the hell out of AC though so it seems like the best bet.

The regular console versions are around $63 and change shipped from The Hut (UK site), if you can stand to wait a week or so. I'm knee deep in a Battlestar Galactica marathon so I wouldn't be playing even if I had the game icon_lol.gif

I have just been informed that JB will be selling the standard edition for $78 to compete with other retailers. This price will last a week only, and then will go back up to $89.

Can we get the bonus missions codes for the standard edition some how?

Thanks a lot for the help Joseph, made me feel better about not going to the midnight launch. Not worth paying over $30 more for 9 hours more playtime!

If you pre-ordered at EB they would give you a code for the mission which is in the White Edition. If you asked nicely tomorrow, the staff might have a few extra codes to give out to the first people who buy the game. Otherwise, there's no other way to get the bonus missions. To be quite frank, if they're anything major they'll eventually be released on the Marketplace and PSN.

I just picked up my White Edition from JB. The Ezio figure is pretty sweet. It's 20cm high with some nice details. If you were to buy a figure from Minotaur or Comics R Us it would cost around $30 anyway so I'm not disappointed. Having said that, if you are not interested in collectables then $77 for AC2 is an awesome deal.

Delayed till next year for PC owners. >_<

Ended up getting the Director's Cut of the first one instead so with preorder money factored in, I only spent $3 today.

At least I can then do the PSP release and just wait till I finish ACII before doing the DS one.

And I hadn't played the first either

I don't see the ACII bargain in the current online catalogue, though the image on the forums says otherwise. I do apologise for missing it, obviously I can't get all prices all the time. It's particuarly difficult for me when retailers change their prices at the last minute or have mutliple catalogues at the one time.

I'll update the round-up and the Aus Bargains article.

^^yeah i couldnt find it online but it showed up in a email from Toys R Us. AC II and MW 2 are onsale from 20-22 Nov it's a 3 day sale.
