Nintendo store update - 09/10/09

PALGN News | The wind blows steadily.
It’s Friday again and you all know what that means – the PAL Nintendo stores have been updated. This week, Nintendo has released the WiiWare games LostWinds: Winter of Melodies and Happy Holidays: Halloween. Joining the pair on the Wii Shopping Channel is the SNES classic Final Fight 2 and the Master System game Wonder Boy III: The Dragon’s Trap. Finally, the DSi Shop gets Dragon Quest Wars and the Photo Clock application.

LostWinds: Winter of Melodies is the sequel to the WiiWare launch title LostWinds. In this new adventure players have the ability to switch between the seasons Summer and Winter to solve puzzles, as well as swim, break rocks and summon cyclones. Unfortunately the game has not been released on the Australian Wii Shop Channel, but Frontier Games has stated it is on the way so it’s just a matter of being patient (grumble…). The game will set you back 1000 Wii points.

Happy Holidays: Halloween is best describe as a Wii software application – it lets you send Halloween greeting cards to people registered in your Friend’s List. Considering Halloween isn’t really celebrated in PAL territories, we have no idea why you would want to spend 500 Wii points on this.

Final Fight 2 is a beat ‘em up that was originally released in 1993. The game is set a few years after the original, and sees Mike Hagger return to take on the remnants of the Mad Gear gang. New to Final Fight 2 is the ability to play co-operatively with a buddy, otherwise it’s identical to the original. Final Fight 2 will set you back 800 Wii points.

Wonder Boy III: The Dragon’s Trap was originally released in 1989 and is considered to be one of the best games that were produced for the Sega Master System. In the game Wonder Boy is cursed and turns into a dragon, so he goes on a quest to find the Salamander Cross that will change him back into a human. After defeating bosses, players will gain the ability to change into different animals including a lizard, mouse, piranha, lion and hawk. Each creature has unique abilities, such as the mouse being able to enter small holes and lizard being able to breathe fire. The game will set you back 500 Wii points.

Dragon Quest Wars was developed by Intelligent Systems (the developers behind the Advanced Wars series) as part of a collaboration between Nintendo and Square Enix to create six new games for the DSi download service. The game is a turn-based strategy game which features online and offline multiplayer for up to four players. Your main goal is to take turns fighting other monsters, with battles lasting between 5-10 turns each. The game will set you back 500 DSi points.

The Photo Clock is exactly as it sounds – it’s another clock application which lets you display a photo you’ve taken with your DSi console. It will set you back 200 DSi points, lord only knows why you’d download it though.

**** Australia and its non-LostWindsiness.

I would buy lost winds if I could safely update, looks like Nintendo's attitude lost them some cash, again.

Anyone getting Dragon Quest wars for DSi?

Any single player component to this?

Sucks about LostWinds, but I guess I will be too busy for the time being playing other games to I guess it can wait.

As for Wonderboy III. As a Sega fanboy from way back I must say I considered that (and proberbly still do) the best 8-bit game ever. It took everything great about games and merged them: open world, different levels, upgrading weapons, gaining new abilities, stuff you expect in RPG's but on a 2D side scroller, and done right (Im looking at you Zelda II)

With that being said I will not be buying it because Dragons Curse (TG16 port) has been on there for a while and Ive already been though it twice.

For those that don't have Dragons Curse I say get Wonderboy III NOW, but for those that already do own the former, its the exact same game so don't bother.

Yeah I downloaded this the other day. It does contain a single player mode against CPU opponents mimicing online play. No real story or campaign mode though. So it's strictly a battle game. Made by Intelligent Systems so the strategy based gameplay is solid what with their experience with Advance Wars and Fire Emblem.

Boo to no Lostwinds and am still waiting on my Contra Rebirth.
