The PALGN Podcast, Episode 65

PALGN Feature | Videogame magazines, and For the Love of Gaming: Episode 2.
In Episode 65 of the PALGN Podcast, our writers tear themselves away from their consoles and computer screens to discuss the state of videogame magazines. Anthony ponders how magazines are surviving in the online world, and ultimately, whether or not videogame magazines even have a place in current gaming culture. Michael, James and Jeremy provide their views on issues such as online versus print journalist and if demo discs are still relevant, while Jahanzeb looks at videogame magazines that we have come to treasure over the years. Clocking in at just over an hour, this is one podcast that gamers of new and old won't want to miss.

Episode 2 of For the Love of Gaming can also be heard in the heart of this week's episode. Once again looking at gaming issues that are getting on our nerves, Anthony talks about the absurd delay in bringing Rock Band 2 to Australia and the Left 4 Dead 2 boycott. Meanwhile, James discusses his foray into casual gaming.

This week's outro remix is Animal Crossing 'Traveling' by Kaijin and distributed by OverClocked ReMix (www.ocremix.org). For the full bitrate version, why not head over to OverClocked ReMix and download it?

It seems from your "hardcore" collection description (stating that you have no casual games in your collection) that the defination boils down to violence

As for madden - why dowe get that every year but have to import our baseball games? MLB the show 08 +09 both rate above 85% in metacritic

Rpg strategy guides are great - but not iprima - they are always incomplete or just plain wrong. Piggyback guides are real collectors pieces. Ive also paid the extra for Demons souls pre-order for the guide, so I guess there is still some demand for them (at least one)

As for game magazines, I used to get pc powerply for the demo disc (no longer thanks to broadband), but found offical mags to biased and hyper (whilst funny) full of typos. The net killed off those subscriptions. I loved the "quality" (read glossy page an broad focus) UK mags (pc format /gamestm) but about 2 years ago there was a significant price jump ($9sih to $15ish) and when I can get an actual game for $20 I could no longer justify the cost, so unless im going on a train trip and want a read or something, magazine purchases are infrequent.
