Takeuchi also spoke about the initial plans for the inevitable sequel, Resident Evil 6, and the direction it may take.
"Honestly, the producer for Resident Evil 6 hasn't been decided yet. I think, while Resident Evil 4 is a great game, its appeal was limited somewhat to maniac players. With RE5, I wanted to bring the series to a larger audience. I think its important to do the same for the next RE."
So it seems that those fans who wanted a return to the the sorts of gameplay present in the early Resident Evil games may be disappointed, with Takeuchi suggesting the series is destined to stay in its current form of having a more action-oriented focus with less emphasis on scares, exploration and puzzles. However, you can hardly blame Capcom for giving consumers what they want as Resident Evil 5 has shipped 5 million copies worldwide, and that's without availability on the Wii.
