The reason for the delay? Multiplayer. Apparently, the development team - previously responsible for the Project Gotham Racing series - needs some additional time in order to 'enhance' the game's multiplayer component.
"We are committed to making Blur a great new racing franchise, and we are very encouraged by the game's design," said Mike Griffith, a bigwig over at Activision. "The additional time will allow the studio to fully optimize the vision they set out to create for Blur including a distinctive and groundbreaking multiplayer mode that will appeal to a broad audience."
We've been promised that this multiplayer will include up to twenty different people battling it out online at any given time, along with good old-fashioned four player split-screen hijinks.
Blur was originally set to be on the grid in November - in direct competition with the likes of Forza Motorsport 3 and Gran Turismo - before the delay to an unspecified time next year.
