This Week's Releases - 14/09/09

PALGN Feature | And with that, the drought was broken.
Do you have a second job? If not, now might be the time to go out and find one with the deluge of videogames invading store shelves over the next seven days. So, in no particular order, here we go with our summation of all that's good and great this week.

The fifth instalment of the Guitar Hero series rocks its way onto Xbox 360, PS3, PS2 and Wii from Wednesday. Guitar Hero 5 promises tracks from the Beastie Boys, Coldplay, David Bowie and Wolfmother, and may be purchased as a standalone game or bundled with the guitar controller. Also hitting the streets is the next SingStar instalment for PS2 and PS3, SingStar Motown, including the likes of the Supremes, Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder.

Next up is Scribblenauts on Nintendo DS. In the game, players must help Maxwell find the Starite in each level by jotting down the word of an object that can be used reach the goal. Objects react as they do in the real world, meaning there are several ways to solve each puzzle. With a total of 220 challenges to decipher, Scribblenauts will keep your brain occupied for some time to come. Our most recent preview of the game can be found here.

Next up, two of the most iconic racing games battle it out for supremacy. First, Need for Speed SHIFT takes a new direction, giving players a realistic view of racetrack with what Electronic Arts is calling ‘perception based G-Forces’ and a ‘brutally disorientating crash dynamic’. Next is Codemasters' off-road racer Colin McRae: Dirt 2. With a wide selection of rally cars and off-road vehicles, the game promises a new breed of dirt racing with updated race types, locations and ‘benchmark tech’. Need for Speed SHIFT can be found on Xbox 360, PS3, PSP and PC, and Colin McRae: Dirt 2 on Xbox 360, PS3, PSP and Wii.

After Final Fantasy and Soulcalibur a few weeks ago, the happy news continues for PlayStation Portable fans with two games being released, I-L2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey and MotorStorm Artic Edge. PC owners also have two titles the have been residing on closes for some time, Red Faction: Guerrilla and Resident Evil 5. Finally, World War II aerial combat comes to life in the Heroes Over Europe on Xbox, PS3 and PC (check back for our review of the game shortly).

NFS:Shift is out this week? I read later. Oh well, I'm waiting for Forza 3 anyway.

Thinking about GH5. I'm not sure if I can be bothered, a bit over guitar games (as are my friends who have played them religiously since the first GH)...

Batman is out on Steam on the 18th for US$49.99, by the way.

****, I didn't realise Motorstorm on PSP was out so soon. Might have to pick it up, though I might be better off just buying the other expansion for Pacific Rift instead. I don't know how well they can pull of the MS experience on a handheld.

Scribblenauts is not coming out in Australia until the 30th. It was announced as delayed a couple of weeks ago.

Katamari FTW, played Demo last night. Hope it's better than the recycled Xbox 360 levels...

Yeah, most EB should have their stock today. I doubt about JB though, their website says Friday.

ODST drops next week... I see my thesis falling to the wayside already. Bungie is the worst thing that has ever happened to my uni degree. icon_razz.gif

Scribblenauts is not coming out in Australia until the 30th

They had better be localising the dartabase (i.e colour not color and organisation not organization etc) otherwise its these sort of delays that encourage importing/download (+ price with the $A reasonably high at the moment)

For those looking at getting SHIFT, I just rang up my local GAME and got them to price match JB at $89. And yes, they are selling it today too.

Also a heads up, my local JB Hifi is selling Dirt 2 today, although EB wasn't yet.

Pity I have to wait for mine to arrive from playasia icon_sad.gif Oh well, I got it cheap.

^ I hate it when that happens, but at least you save some money...

^Yeah I had some credit and a coupon etc so it ended up costing $58aud delivered. So can't complain!

Local JB had Need for Speed Shift on PS3 out on shelves, but not X360... no idea why, but wasn't really looking.

I got an email today from Activision that said Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 is due out on 16th, so looks like they might have dragged it forward a week.
