Game over for Fallout 3

PALGN News | You'd retire too after having five babies.
After releasing one of 2008’s most critically-acclaimed games and producing a whopping five downloadable packs which each add around four hours each to an already lengthy game, Fallout 3’s executive producer Todd Howard told Kotaku that they’ll be putting the title away to work on new projects.

"I think we've put enough content out there for this game," Howard said. “We knew we wanted to do three initially and we'll see where that goes. I kind of had in my mind that the upper limit was five. Part of that was what I think people are willing to continue to pay for a game. And a lot of that is our own internal bandwidth."

The five downloadable packs are planned for a PlayStation 3 release next month, with one to be released per week, starting with Broken Steel which changes the ending and increases the game’s level cap.

But never fear, Fallout boys and girls, Fallout: New Vegas is currently in development.

Glad i didn't finish the game. Knew holding off on it could prove beneficial. icon_biggrin.gif

Kind of strange considering the achievement quota has not been filled yet. I thought there may have been one more. Ah well, I love the game, but am happy with the amount of support it's recieved. I still have to play through the last 2!

The PS3 DLC is a long time coming, but 5 packs each one week apart :O

I hope they put all of their resources into porting the DLC to the PS3 otherwise we are going to encounter some serious bugs icon_sad.gif they just delayed the release of the original 3 packs which was due to either debugging issues or some time exclusivity agreement. Judging by the release in bulk I am thinking the later grrr!!!!

I am glad they are releasing broken steel first, its a good move, the level 20 cap was easily reached.

It's a toss up if I go for the DLC or buy the GoTY edition, is there any news of a collectors GoTY type pack? It would be nice to get a bobblehead to go with my trophies :)

Also about the 4 hours of gameplay for each, I would be more inclined to say between 4 and 10, some of the packs had more legs than others. Of the DLC broken steel and point lookout were the best in my opinion (I am still working my way through MZ)

I think there's a third party expansion coming for it. Sure I read somewhere, called something like New Vegas.

BumJab that is a new game made by Obsidian but it will be similar as it's built on the same engine.

^ I don't profess to know much about it other than I'm sure I read somewhere about it being an expansion, but a new game is all good icon_smile.gif

so when does the GOTY edition come out on the 360??

New Vegas is indeed a whole other game developed by Obsidian, which apparently includes some of the original Fallout developers from Black Isle Studios.

I played and finished all of the DLC

If I was to rate them in order of preference

1) Point Lookout
2) Broken Steel
3) The Pitt
4) Mothership Zeta
5) Operation Anchorage

(though the last 2 are pretty much on par)

I'm sort of glad it's finished now. I love Fallout but after the last DLC, I am starting to tire of it. It's pretty much the same but on a spaceship.

I am glad that there were so many DLCs as it's given me a lot more value out of the game than I thought.

Fingers crossed that New Vegas comes out sooner rather than later and is far superior to Fallout 3.

I'm yet to play any DLC given that I have a PS3, but I had predicted the same of my order of preference. I'm peaking for Point Lookout! How strong are the horror references? I look forward to making good use of the Blackhawk and Lincoln Repeater.

I'm waiting for this too. Really don't want to buy the game again, then buy and download all the packs. Too much hassle.
