Earthworm Jim for Wii, 360, PSN

PALGN News | Gameloft bringing the worm back.
Mobile games specialist Gameloft has announced that the company has reached an agreement with Interplay to resurrect the Earthworm Jim series on the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade and WiiWare platforms.

According to the press release, the agreement allows Gameloft to develop, publish and distribute any games featuring the superworm. Whether or not the company is looking to port an existing Earthworm Jim game to the new formats, create a new game, or something in between is unknown.

"The game, with its humorous and edgy style, is a great fit for today's gamer who craves a fully immersive experience that is fun and easily accessible," said Gonzague de Vallois, an important person at Gameloft. "We look forward to delivering a fantastic game."

Apparently, the game will first appear on the Xbox 360 a month before other platforms. Jim will also be making an appearance on mobile devices, possibly including the iPhone OS.

Earthworm Jim first appeared on 16-bit consoles in 1994, quickly becoming popular thanks to its rather zany sense of humour.

I just hope that they can reach, or at least approach, the quality of the first two titles. If so, we're in for a treat!

Although they could drop the granny-chair business... that was diabolical!

Groooooovy!

The first one was much better than the second.

Actually, the Mega CD had the best version because it had a MUCH better soundtrack and a couple of extra levels.

Awesome game and awesome news if this ends up the same sort of quality!

I hope they include plenty of new crazy ideas, instead of just rehashing all the originals. EWJ deserves better than a rehash.

Hmm, I wonder if this has anything to do with the Genesis Poll asking people to submit which game they would like done for Xbox Live next...

--Update--

Woha! I just noticed that Earthworm Jim is off that list now (although the image on the side is still there). Definitely the two go hand in hand...

Yeah, Jim was at, like, 50% votes after the first 2 days or so. Which is awesome but also very, very sad. Why is Wonderboy attempting to keep his halo and head above water? What’s wrong with you people?!

Toejam & Earl for the win. I'd love a remade version for 360. If I had to choose, I'd vote T&E over Jim.

The first Toejam and Earl? Damn that stinks. The 2nd one was cool but the first one sucked.

In any event all 3 are on Virtual Console if you want any of them. Im sold if they do a brand new 2D Jim title

But then again Sonic has proven just because its 2D doesn't make it as good as it's 16-bit predecessors. But to be fair Mega Man 9 being as good as its 8-bit forefathers shows it can be done icon_biggrin.gif

I love the more recent 2D sonic titles, Sonic Rush was awesome. I much preferred the boss battles in it to the old school "here's Dr Robotnik in a bubble plane.. now a bubble plane that shoots a bit differently... ooh now it's a bubble plane that turns into a bubble tank that does exactly the same stuff as the bubble plane but on the ground instead, way to mix it up Dr. Retardnik".

Earthworm Jim's great and all, but I doubt I'll enjoy it, my sense of humour has changed since I was a boy. So if they don't change it then it won't appeal, and if they do change it, it probably won't appeal either.

TJ&E for the win, then I'd vote Streets of Rage second. Everyone who dislikes the first TJ&E can cram it, I love that game.

I'm talking the first Toejam. I played that to death on my Sega, it was the best 2 player game I had. I never played the second one, but the first was pure addictive fun.

The tv show is still hilarious to this day, dunno about the games though. Oh man, it'd be awesome if they included episodes as unlockables (they won't though).

You can't be serious. The first one was so much better. I still remember flying or floating to the bottom left hand corner island of Level 1 and falling through the middle to get to "Level 0".

The Earthworm Jim news is still excellent.

I loved all the ToeJam & Earls, hell, even the one on the original Xbox rocked (and it had Live!). Hard to say which one I prefer, I hold them all dear.

It's also coming to the iPhone and iPod Touch if anyone is interested.
